It's worrisome because this is what Gulutzan used to do. Get everything to the net and we dominate advanced stats.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that squeaking into the playoffs is a great strategy, but that's where we're headed—in a best-case scenario. We all know the team isn't going to rebuild.

went for wings thinking it was a 7pm start and ended up leaving the bar around puck drop with miss crimm instead, which ended up being a much better use of 2 hours

tuning in later for the so/ot reaffirmed that .. brutal

'not the flames' is proving to be a wise decision these days

This team’s lack of preparation in the first five to seven minutes of every game is absolutely insane. Very un-Sutter like and definitely a trend at this point. Sutter’s inability to adjust a system to his player’s strengths is very concerning. Not sure if he’s lost the room but the team’s sloppy, uninterested play seems to indicate so. Seems like a crash course this season for Sutter being fired/walking away and Tre being canned.

Would it be more fun on this board if it was just homogenous, blind optimism?
You can do whatever you want, why do you have a problem with me (or people like me) doing whatever I want? Someone asked how someone can be an optimist, I answered how. I never said you can’t be a fan of you’re not an optimist, but I honestly don’t understand why you’d be a fan if you weren’t having fun. That seems like a really silly way to waste your time. “What are you up to tonight?” “I’m going to spend 2 hours watching a team I hate watching play a sport I barely like and then sit on the internet talking about how much I dislike that team.”

Incredibly cool stuff. I can’t think of anything less rewarding.

And to be honest, yeah, it would probably be more fun if we were all just blind optimists who just had fun watching the game. It kind of sucks reading through the same repetitive complaints by the same 20 people bumping the same dumb threads, but it’s fun to make fun of at least. As long as we’re all having fun, whatever that looks like is cool.

If this is Huberdeau; than yes, for years.
How do you see it playing out with his contract and performance? Be specific.

Oh yeah, Gulutzan. I swear that guy coached to chase advanced stats thinking that if you have the metrics, success will follow. In reality, advanced stats just tell you what happened, but not what will happen. If they simply play well and execute, the positive stats naturally follow. I really doubt that is what Sutter does.

I think the Flames more or less outplayed the Canucks tonight just going by my armchair eye test. We just gave up a couple of easy goals. That's pretty much it.

Well obviously. But if that’s the barometer every game…

There are some we should be happy with just a point.

There are some we should be disappointed with just a point.

Everyone? Nobody's posting in a PGT on a message board from the 2000's if they're not a fan.

People who are often pessimistic are at greater risk for heart disease, among other medical conditions.

So I wouldn’t say it costs nothing.

He can’t. The Huberdeau signing so far is an epic debacle. That’s no overstatement.

Either this team is constructed well or it isn't. I don't think a team limping into the playoffs is constructed well.
Different kind of 'just get in and anything can happen'

During that time, the Flames just weren't good enough - 8th was the bes they could hope for, then a 1st round exit was the likely outcome

This team is more like the LA teams, with lots of depth, deep defense, plenty of grit, and good goaltending (at least expected to be). It is a team that, if firing on all cylinders, would cause any team fits.

It is very much a team that can make a deep playoff run

Here is a scenario:

Flames enter the lottery --> win first overall --> select Connor Bedard --> fanbase is excited to watch their new franchise player.... --> Sutter sends Bedard back to the minors in favour of players like Lewis and Lucic. Because Bedard needs to play in the minors for a few years and earn his spot.

Uh we generate high shot volume and have a decent expected goals against. Don't ask about the quality of those shots, goaltending, expected goals for, but they have those fundamentals of Sutter hockey down
