Phillips is learning pretty quickly I think ... By no means would I take him out for the Vancouver game. The penalty was unfortunate, maybe the weakest call of the night. And his presence on PP2 is already pretty valuable.

It's not looking good.

Colorado, Minnesota, Nashville and St. Louis fans would probably have the Flames as one of the teams they have to beat that is likely to pick it up.

Given the circumstances, they were fine.
Excellent goaltending performance, just couldn't get a second goal.

Dunno what you're expecting for a third game in four nights at the end of a road trip without Weegar and the 1C. It was a close one and they'll make the necessary adjustments before the Vancouver game.

I'd like Sutter to play his best players more instead of obsessively putting his 4th line out in positions to fail. He has done it his entire time here, and it's stupid.

Kadri is:
8th is 5v5 p/60 among flames forwards
-7, worst on the team
Negative in all relative possession stats
Diving and whining about it
In positive notes he is shooting a lot so I think the brouwer/neal comparison is premature, he’s actually getting involved in the play at least.
I shouldn’t hold it against him that the team is expecting him to be a top line forward but he is a player that other teams are happy to play against right now.

LA and Seattle have had dream starts and are slightly ahead of the Flames... Calgary has two in hand on the Kings. Oilers are only a couple points up too
Division spots are there for the taking
Calgary still hasn't even played the bottom 3 teams in their division

Markstrom needs more poke-checking in the SO. Not Kay Whitmore desperation poke check but if the shooter has his skates in your crease, swipe at the puck because the shooter has a huge advantage when he backs up so far into his net.

I expect them to beat the team that finished dead last a year ago, who is clearly rebuilding, with a make shift defence that's been getting exposed this year, missing 5 or 6 regulars, that you just lost to a week or 2 ago on home ice. Especially if you want to consider yourself a contender.

For sure, I love having him on PP2. Hit a post tonight and showed some grit at times. Definitely keep him in the lineup, especially for a team that needs some offense badly.

Markstrom is back. Be excited about that.

Outside of last season, you could copy/paste this exact post for the last 15 seasons. Mediocrity is just as bad as Anaheim Chicago territory. Maybe worse…which is why it’s been 15 years of it.
Always middling.

Now it's comments comparing Kadri to Brower and Neil or people being mad that Sutter had the gall to play one of the best PKing vetarans "too much" in a game with a ton of penalties.

they blew the game when they came out brutality unprepared to start the 3rd period scrambling around that led to the goal, after an excellent end of the second. Not being ready is killing them

Just saw the highlights again...Dube had the puck in perfect position to shoot on the 2 on 0. Kadri made a great pass, if I knew how to screenshot it and make a few of you look dumb I would

It was one pass too many. Like Huberdeau not shooting earlier in the game.

This team without Lindholm Weegar and Tanev is probably not a playoff team so I’m not even disappointed in the result.
That said, I think it’s clear that change needs to happen because status quo isn’t going to be good enough. Hopefully this is the start of the Markstrom redemption tour because that’s the only way this team makes any noise in the playoffs at this rate.
Oh, and I think we bench anyone who takes a high sticking penalty in overtime. Literally costing us points by having to play a man short every. Single. Time.

They finished last last year like you said...last year's Flames lost to them twice too though.
And it's not like the Flames weren't missing players tonight

One of the problem with the Flames is that they don't shoot enough, always look for that perfect goal. They need to crash the net and shoot and shoot some more! They need to score a dirty goal like bounce off your team mate's butt and in!.

Yeah the Dube pass...it was suggested that Kadri should be benched because he passed too late. Laughable even if he did but it was a perfect pass and Dube should have shot it.
