He has a great shot and when he has time he can score but especially on the pp Huberdeau has found him multiple times cross seam and two seconds later Toffoli gets the shot off. But that line is incredibly slow and I don’t think it is because of Lindholm. Take Lucic out because the other giant looked good last night and move Toffoli down to the Lewis line.
Toffoli has been the team's most consistent threat game in and game out.

He's not heading to the fourth line.

I'm open to finding a different look in the top six, and maybe you can fit Phillips in for sure. But Toffoli isn't sliding three lines.

The players and Sutter looked like the game last night was a last straw.

I think we’re going to find out what this team is made of tonight. If they crap the bed again I think they have a huge problem.

This is about as close to a guaranteed loss as it gets. Only thing that might make it interesting is if Phillips dresses.

Or move him down to the Backlund line and move Coleman down. The Lindholm line is the third line this year imo, with the Backlund line having been the best line and the Kadri line being second best, so it is not much of a drop. But unless you are saying that Toffoli is the straw on that line, something is off when two studs like Huberdeau and Lindholm look like they have looked this year. But you are probably right, the Flames will likely keep rolling with what has put them in the place they are currently in.

I am fine with moving the pieces around, even if it is a guy who has been their most consistent threat, on a team that is 10th in winning percentage in their conference.

I think the issue is kadri you could put Toffoli on his line and bump Dube down but kadri doesn't pass so the options are limited for a shakeup to insert Philips in the top 9.

I think the team has six wingers in different piles

Huberdeau
Toffoli

won't be demoted, they can play in a different top six, but they're not heading to the fourth line

Mangiapane
Dube
Ruzicka

not established enough to be in the top group, but won't be demoted to the fourth line or scratched if they're playing well - lately they've all been pretty good.

Coleman

Not good with the puck, not good with offence, can muck it up and is great defensively so he has a long rope

So to insert say Phillips I think you have to attack the middle group. With Zohorna though at least the fourth line has a chance.

I agree with you, particularly about the established group and that is the Flames problem. I can’t remember the last elite team that had so many immovable 30 year olds in their top 6 forwards. I think it is a major problem, playing and rewarding past performance rather than giving the young guys more rope to hang themselves. I hope that mentality changes but I am not hopeful.

Then call him Brouwer. I’ll happily eat crow if Huberdeau turns it around but for all the criticisms Gaudreau and Tkachuk for being complementary star players that couldn’t win in it all, he is on a tier below them. I haven’t seen much of anything that suggests he is anything close to a game breaker. I didn’t expect him to repeat last years points total but he hasn’t been noticeable most games this season.

Ruzicka Lindholm Toffoli - worked well before
Huberdeau Kadri Phillips - new look for 10 and puts Phillips in a spot to make plays
Mangiapane Backlund Coleman - please get Mang back into the spot he scored 35
Dube Zohorna Lewis - demotion for Dube is too bad but maybe these guys can be a more skilled 4th line

I get the feeling we could see one of two extreme outcomes tonight.

The team, embarassed by how they played last night, comes out sharp with a huge win in a marquis game.

Or we get smoked by a really good team.

Huberdeau - Backlund - Phillips

Vladar

I don’t care where everyone else plays, but as a fan I’d like to see some more storylines and maybe even a win if we’re lucky.

Gaudreau left.

Tkachuk demanded a trade.

The Flames did what they could to restock the upper half of their roster. It may gel, it may not.

But comparing what was here to what is here now when it wasn't a franchise decision to turn things over is pointless in my mind.

Hard working, undrafted, great in the room, charitable ... and you can't pass up a chance to hammer him.

It's just odd.

That you mention him at all is ridiculous. He hasn't played here for two seasons.
