If Gaudreau tries to bully him, Lucic can step in.

I've always had it as ...

Lewis
Lucic
Ritchie
Rooney

as an order.

That Rooney break out play in the opposition zone was damning.

I am very excited about this move, and hope that Phillips shows us what he's capable of. I agree with the a few comments; it will be hard for him to find success if he's left on the 4th line.
Unlikely Sutter goes for it, but IMO he fits best on the top line with Huby-lindy.

I think the top 6 could still use some shuffling. 4 of the goals in the last 2 games have been powerplay, not result of strong 5v5 play by these lines.

It will be interesting to see what the lines look like. Are the Wranglers in town? Will Phillips be able to join practice today?

Makes about $5,300/wk with the Wranglers, over $28k/wk with the Flames

Even one week is a nice bonus

Flames are clicking in the top nine though ... which winger do you demote?

Toffoli
Huberdeau
Mangiapane
Dube
Coleman
Ruzicka

all noticeably better.

The only line that I like at 5v5 that should not be touched is the Backlund line, the rest can be improved. So, I hope Phillips gets to play in the top 9 before the time runs out.
I think he will play 1-2 games on the 4th line and then get a shot in the top 9

Ahh yes forgot about Rooney.

Not sure what they saw in him to waste a roster spot and cap space on.

Lewis
Ritchie
Lucic
Rooney

Rooney and Lucic are almost in a dead heat for being the most useless.

Obviously Phillips has been doing well in the AHL, but I don't follow the Wranglers at all. For those who do, what type of player can we expect from him? Is he more like a Gaudreau/Marner type or more Mangiapane style? Or is he his own thing and what does that look like?

I'm not a huge fan of fighting in hockey, but I would love to see Johnny vs Phillips. Lucic can take a break tonight.

Since they play tomorrow night in a city that's so far east that it's almost in Philadelphia, I assume they're flying out early today and not practicing.

If there's one thing we should know by now as Flames fans, it's the best place for Phillips to see success early is beside Backlund.
Ruzicka-Backlund-Phillips as a line playing 16-18 minutes would be awesome.

Don't be surprised if he doesn't play

I agree that the flames are playing better but I do not think it has to do with line composition, more with players getting into the season. Lindholm line is not great a 5v5, Kadri does not seem to pass to Dube and Mang much, I do like the Backlund line though.

It is such a hard decision to figure out who to demote, I think all of Flames top 9 players should be top 9 players on any NHL team, but I think Phillips would be intriguing with Huberdeau so somebody needs to be demoted to try that.
