Even if he doesn’t play it’s good for his bank account. That’s another reason we sometimes see call ups not play. The NHL cheque is a reward.

The timing of this makes me laugh.
It's like someone who's going to a party that they know their ex will be at too, so they find a hot friend to bring to the party to show their ex how well they've moved on.

I am one who actually doesn't like the Phillips call up at this time. He isn't going to be successful playing on the fourth line on this team. His game and physical stature is just not suited for that kind of role. If he isn't able to get minutes on one of the top 3 lines then I just don't see the use.
Who do you move out from the top 3 lines at this point? Coleman has been lights out, Ruzicka is playing well, Dube has been good lately. Honestly if I had to pick one player to demote at this time its Mangiapane. He hasn't been very good, even with his slight uptick in play lately.
Honestly, I think this is a move to get the fanbase to stop talking about it and coaches/management get to stop fielding questions about when Phillips will get called up.

Sutter has turned on his fourth line a bit ...
Rooney sat often, Ritchie as well. Only 5 minutes last night and a shortened bench in other games on this homestand.
With Phillips being 24 they don't have to fear they are killing his development so maybe he's just an attempt to make the fourth line less of a black hole.

Well deserved call up IMO
Hopefully he shines.
Flames have a few young players leading the way down on a stacked farm team. It sure would be nice to see more of them graduate and make an impact the way Ruzicka is now.

Hopefully they put him in a position to succeed, but I suspect he's going to be in tough playing on the 4th line with Lucic and Lewis.
Fingers crossed he has enough energy and skill to overcome!

Don't forget Lucic 5:16 who is probably the worst player of the bunch.
I would rather sit him and put Phillips in.
