Congrats on the worst midterms for the party not in the white house in decades...maybe get out of the echo chamber and into reality

Look at the demographics of voting...GOP needs to make MAJOR changes, the most gullible are dying off and younger people aren't falling for their nonsense

I mean the demographic thing has been brought up for going on twenty years now but the recent appeal to anti government and hyper partisanship has really eliminated a lot of the expected slide. Long long term, who knows. But there's a lot of economically stagnant or backsliding white people in that country and the Republicans seem to have them. Regardless of how irrational it is when it comes to actual policy

A Dem victory is nice, but following the oral arguments in 303 Creative it looks like the SCOTUS is going to rule that companies open to the public can discriminate against classes they hate because it's free speech to do so.

Lol @ Walker and the GOP. They probably would have had their red wave if they had ran even moderately normal candidates. Instead they went all in on MAGA lunatics and fealty to Trump, and it came back to bite them in the ass.

the fact that it was even that close is pretty depressing, but i'll take it.

Thank god the GOP was dumb enough to back straight up insane lunatics and unqualified candidates in key states. There could have been a huge red wave, but if you have candidates like Walker, Lake, Mastriano, Oz and so on, this is what happens. Those races were there for the taking ... Republicans only have themselves to blame.

From these past few elections I am now an expert on how a few of these states elections goes:

Georgia - Democrat takes the lead early as they count early votes, then the Republican comes back as the rural votes are counted quicker, then throughout later in the night as the Atlanta votes comes in - the Democrats come back.

Nevada - Republicans take the lead on the 1st day or 2 because Clark County (vegas) takes forever to count and these counties release votes one per day. Republicans will lead for a day or 2 and you can almost predict how it will end up depending on how many VEgas votes are still out.

Those 2 are big 'stop the count' states because Republicans get out to a lead and then potentially lose it (along with PA and WI)

Arizona - they also take forever to count but usually count the early votes 1st so Democrats get the lead. The election day votes then trickle in over many days and it comes down how well the Republicans do in the Maricopa county election day votes on how it ends up.

I'm sure you're not going to answer this because it would take courage and honesty on your part, but...what is it that you actually like about the Republicans?

I don’t know how republicans can rid themselves of trump and Trumpy candidates if the majority of republican primary voters are going to go with Trump nearly every time. I don’t even know the criteria of a Trump candidate except he likes other celebrities even if they have nothing else going for them.

They need one of their votes. It would be 49-51 if they both voted against something. But they're not really always on the same page as each other.

It won't matter much with a Republican house anyway.

Wait, wait, wait.

You want to tell me Americans can carry over their sick days, and Canadians can't?

I know I'm 5 pages behind, but that sounds crazy.

Don't think they do. IIRC, Kamala holds the tiebreaker, so if both of them vote the other side, they have the tie and she decides.

There are currently 51 Democrat Senators and 49 Republicans. If 2 votes join the Republicans, then they lose the vote 51-49. If one voted with them, it would be 50/50 and Kamala would break the tie.

I thought the make up is:

Democrat = 49 with Warnock

Republican = 49

Independent = 2 who vote with the Democrats

Meaning the split is 51/49. If the Democrats were to lose BOTH Sinema and Manchin then it would be 51-49 Republican, Harris only comes into play in the event of a tie.

Vacation, too. As a Canadian working for a US company on a US-based team with a US-based direct manager, my manager was completely dumbfounded at the Canadian HR policy limiting the amount of vacation that I could carry over and that I could get forced to take vacation if I didn't use the amount necessary to meet that threshold before a certain date. In Alberta, if the employer doesn't force you to take it, you lose it... you can then take them to the labour board over it, but it seems completely idiotic.

Typically in Canada if you don't take it, you get it paid out lump sum at the end of the year as Vacation Pay "bonus" for the days owing.
