It is crazy how much the shooting and save percentage impacts things

Right now the Flames have the 30th shooting percentage (8.28%) and the 31st save (.878) percentage.

Even if we were 20th in shooting percentage (9.70%) and 20th in save percentage (.897)

That would mean 8 more goals for, and 8 fewer goals against. Even with just below average shooting and save percentage instead of atrocious shooting and save percentage we would have 16 goal swing in 16 games.

A -6 goal differential would become +10.

Load the top 9 with actual offensive talent, and Markstrom figures his shut out and this team is fine.

I don’t think anyone is ignoring that fact any more than they’re ignoring the fact that one bad goal should not be an issue if the team in front of the goalie is doing their job.

There’s a reason both Markstrom and Vladar have turned into pumpkins this season, and I doubt that reason is all in their head.

If the Flames are worried about their goaltender then it seems incredibly stupid to shoot so poorly while giving up a dozen high quality opportunities.

I would like to see the lines from the start of the season again. That second line was carrying us but the team as a whole was playing more assertively.

I blame the scraggly goatee that Sutter is trying to grow - very unsettling for the players I’m sure as I am still experiencing uncontrollable shivers thinking about it. Huberdeau showing some frustration is a dim light. Shave the chin and try again.

Huberdeau and Weegar play their former team on Saturday . Hopefully that game and a strong performance gives them an offensive spark going forward

I feel the season slipping away. Team needs a win streak in the worst way and this road trip will be a tough time to get it. Looking for 6/10 points now to salvage the trip.

Would be nice to know what else was on the table for Chucky.

The Florida trade is not looking good.

Biggest problem however is goaltending. I would even suggest that Markstrom’s highlight reel saves are luck more than anything else.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t go back to the lines at the start of the season?

Let’s see… with those lines… 5-1.

Moving away from those lines… 2-6-2.

Hmmm…

Not a lot of quick fixes in this league so the only play at the moment should be to normalize the lines. Have your best players eat minutes and keep the role players lower in the lineup. Sutter constantly preaches about star players needing to be the best but right now he is handicapping them by experimenting with the likes of Lewis and Lucic. I definitely get why there has been line juggling as it wasn’t working but at some point you have to let your top players play and hope they figure it out. At the end of the day Huberdeau feeding Lewis for one timers is going to have very little success.

didn't see the game but if these ill timed back breaking goals against keep happening with markstrom for much longer , then it's time to ease vladar into the 1A position and start thinking about Dustin Wolf too

the way the team is built we can't afford a 3 gaa and 890 save%

hope they aren't going to use up the 3 year window on markstrom if he isn't up to the task . I'm not about this ride or die mentality .. I ride with the guy that performs

“I'll take the chances we had over the one's they had,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “They're getting pucks to the net, but if your goalie sees them and from the outside, it's just limiting what happens after that. I thought we did a good job of that tonight.”

Tells you about just shooting to shoot tonight nothing dangerous a bunch of weak attempts on net.

The lineup need a big shakeup. Sutter out coaching himself.

I think Flames is at least a playoff team and I hope they find their game soon and get some points and has a stress free season and qualify PO early as possible.
My main worry is Markstrom now. He looks like always struggles when pressure is high and games are tight.

Lines have been an issue but there are lot of players who have not been performing to the level you’d expect.

Coleman - Yes he does the little things, but I honestly would have expected more of an offensive output from him.
Mangiapane - He absolutely looks lost out there at times. Confidence is toast (pun intended).
Dube - started the season well, but he doesn’t bring the effort night in and night out.

You can blame the Lucic’s, Lewis’ and Ritchie’s but those guys are doing what they are expected to do and more.

Are they playing more minutes than they should? In an ideal circumstance, yes. But they are taking minutes from guys who have lesser production than them. Lucic has been snake bitten offensively though
Ritchie - 4 G 2A in 10:18 ATOI
Lewis - 3G 2A in 14:30 ATOI
Mangiapane 3G 3A in 16:07 ATOI
Coleman 1G 4A in 14:06 ATOI
Dube 1G 3A in 14:49 ATOI
Lucic 0G 4A in 11:14 ATOI

It’s time to go back to the lines that we started the season with. Blending the lines up hasn’t worked and it’s time to slot the players back to where they most naturally fit.

If I understand it correctly it is strength of schedule from this point with devils having the toughest and flames the easiest.
