Didn't watch but when I saw the boxscore that the Lightning scored 10 seconds later, I just assumed it was a weak one by Markstrom.

Unfortunately not every player is playing for a contract like last year. Combine that with baffling coaching decisions and poor goaltending and it’s gonna be an uphill battle to turn this season around.

Disagree.
Teams record against “playoff teams” is generally much worse than their total record is.
Flames schedule I think is now up to playing teams on pace for 100 points - nobody in the league is even close to that.

The schedule remains pretty tough until Dec 1 and then the December schedule looks pretty soft.
Will be interesting to see where they stand on Dec 31st.

Player usage this season has been hot garbage. Yep, Huberdeau could be better, but his skill set is all about puck distribution…and when you have no one offensively talented to pass to this is what you get.
It is beyond stupid to sign a player for $10.5M and then play him with Trevor Lewis. This is a terrible beginning to a decade-long relationship.

Same story for 7mm to play Kadri with an anchor in Lucic.
I like Sutter, he gave us an awesome season last year, but bizarro goatee Sutter throwing out bottom end guys irrespective of the score is a problem.

Neither Johnny or Tkachuk showed up in the playoffs. Neither wanted to be here. Hopefully this team squeaks into the playoffs then we can judge.

The majority owner should of enjoyed his 2nd round playoff bag and not ordered to try and stay competitive.
The list of players you could of traded for futures and start the rebuild was more valuable then than it is now… instead we are dragging our wagon through the mud for the next 5-7 years.

The Flames have given up the 3rd lowest High Danger Changes Against and are 20th in Goals Against. Last year they were 4th lowest in HDCA and 3rd lowest in Goals Against. I think the system and D are doing in their job in limiting high danger changes, Markstrom and Vladar have just be bad. We've seen how letting in soft goals game in game out impacts how a teams plays. Finishing is for sure an issue, but you also need a goalie to make timely saves and give the team confidence to play the system. Really believe with consistent goaltending a lot of the other issues would resolve themselves.

It’s the 2022/23 Flames recipe for killing positive momentum:
Start hot generating positive momentum then crush it abruptly via one or more of the following:
0.03 shooting percentage
0.85 save percentage
Bonehead penalties right in front of the ref
I’m definitely noticing some patterns.

This is why the biggest point of concern right now should be the goaltending.
If the goalies are going to continue posting .881 and .889 save %, then strength of schedule doesn’t matter. They’ll continue to lose at the rate they currently are because you can’t win with goalie performances like that.
At least Markstrom knows he’s been trash (just spoke to the media about it)

Team came out gangbusters, then Buffalo...after the loss to Buffalo something happened other than injuries. Been downhill since.

I really wish we would just bring someone up to plug into that Lewis spot. We have plenty of young guys that are on the cusp (even if they didn't impress at camp).
I like Lewis, but I would like him a lot more on the 4th line.
Rotate through Lucic, Lewis and Richie on the 4th line wings.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that Sutter is trying to send a message to buy into his system with these lines but if Flames had average goal tending then they probably have three more wins and things aren’t looking so bleak.

Well I hope the team wins 15 of the next 20 and gets in a great spot for the playoffs. If they go 7-13 or the like I hope they trade guys for picks and don't add and waste assets.

I was thinking the same thing. Play them 50/50 until one of them grabs the ring.

Zary and Pelt both impressed but were not given a shot. These young guys are pro ready 1-2 years post draft. Not 3-4.
Did either one of those guys get to play with anything other the 4 line dust bunnies in camp?

This was a disappointing game. I have hopes for the Flames to turn it around soon.

Is it tho?
This will be the season of upsetting and disappointing results. Making excuses, there is no SPEED or a large amount of skill in this roster.

So if we are fortunate enough to make the playoffs arr we playing the soft teams or the ones with 100 points?
Colorado beat 4 teams with 100 points to win the cup.
Sutter seems to be on a ego trip after winning the the Jack Adams. His coaching and Markstrom costing this team.

I wouldn’t mind one of the young prospects being called up to inject some offense into our top 9. Pelletier, Phillips or even Zary
