I really do believe he will be an NHL goalie, but we have to remember that there is a grand canyon between "rarely lets in a bad goal" at the AHL level and "rarely lets in a bad goal" at the NHL level and a graveyard of AHL goalies that looked like they'd be a sure fire transition to NHL success.
Wolf has more accolades and stats behind him than many of those goalies for sure, but personally I won't say anything about his NHL ability until he plays NHL games. Just the nature of goalies.

Yeah I would say let him marinate for a while. We don’t want to ruin him. Leave him down there at least this year.

Rental?
Karlsson has 4 more years left (after this season) with a cap hit of $11.5M.
He's going nowhere fast.
There would be no price to pay, the Sharks would need to attach draft capital to move him. Lots of draft capital.

Part of the "Jon Gillies" problem is that certain goalies' entire gameplan is to use their pads to block shots along the bottom of the ice, which inflates stats at lower levels, but the higher up you go the more you have to be able to track pucks, use your glove/blocker/stick, and use your athleticism to cover cross-ice plays. I don't think our NHL starter is exempt from this at times either.
Wolf is a relatively smaller goalie who doesn't rely as much on rote butterfly fundamentals the way a lot of AHL goalies do. I believe he is more likely to be a Juuse Saaros type that is meant for the NHL, and the primary question is if the Flames waste his best athletic years in the minors.

Karlsson is interesting..having a great year. I wonder if a team like Buffalo or Detroit take a chance on him.
Karlsson could be great in Detroit as a mentor and leader for the next few seasons as that team finishes the rebuild and starts to climb.

I could see a team like Edmonton paying good assets for him, while sending out a Nurse type to offset the contract.

No one is taking on Nurse's deal and the Oilers can't afford to retain. Its kind of awesome, really.

I hate Edmonton but adding Karlson would make their power play unstoppable.
With Karlson it might actually be the best power play unit of all time.

The Oilers can get Arizona to retain 50% easily I’m told so they can offload nurse that way.

From what I have read from Oiler fans, there are teams lined up to help the Oilers by retaining salary because they are all just so excited to see more talented players play with McDavid. They are all like, screw our own team, we just want to help the Oilers.

No metrics - but I don't think you can ever really project an AHL goalie as an NHL starter until you see them play in the NHL for an extended period of time. Goalies are way too hard to project IMO.

Theory is that Karlsson is having a great year because the SJ coach is giving him free reign to play all over the ice, defence be damned.
He's healthy for a change. Hard to imagine that will continue. His shooting percentage is close to 20%, which won't continue for a defencemen.

Sharks put Scott Harrington on waivers.
Wonder if the Flames put a claim in.
He is slightly cheaper than Gilbert or DeSimone and has a lot more NHL experience.

I'd say that's a big checkmark in favor of likelihood of Flames picking him up.

This is the kind of guy Tre would likely to go after at the trade deadline so why not put in a claim now when you could use the extra body.

I feel like if they would eat $2.5 to $3.5M of that deal, and it was $8x4 or $9x4 instead that they would get some suitors.
