Yes, that is just another hurdle to add to the list I posted
But any Oiler's reply would be: 'pffft - who wouldn't want to play with McDavid?'

Kane for sure isn't looking to pad his stats for a contract - he is already going to get a decent one next season from someone. And Toews would have to wonder where he even fits in on the Oilers.
The only X factor is whether Duncan Keith has any influence.

Yeah but how much pull would Keith have here? He's not even playing on the team, so it's not like Kane/Toews would be reuniting with him for a last dance. The most he'll do is fluff up the opportunity over a phone call/dinner.

Yes, likely. But he did play for them and he can lie and tell him it's great.

I don't know how Nicholson holds onto his job after the Hockey Canada Inquiry.

There's so many reasons for this from what I saw... why do you think that?

To that the 3 times SC champs would do, "pfff...who the hell is McDavid?" Kane can go anywhere he wants, it's not like he hasn't won anything. If he goes there and they do win, it'll be all McDavid, McDavid, McDavid. And if they don't win or lose out in the first round, it be like, it's all Kane's fault. Why would he put himself in that situation? AND, Edmonton is a crappy place to live during the hockey season.

The Oilers Should Have an Elite First Unit, But They Don't
Quote:
Darnell Nurse is the one player the Oilers felt confident in to anchor their defensive corps. The Oilers have long figured Nurse could be an impactful defender who is additive to McDavid’s game, unburdening the centre’s defensive responsibilities a touch to let him play the dangerous transition game he’s known for. In theory, it makes a lot of sense.
But the numbers (Nurse has been paired mostly with veteran defender Cody Ceci) continue to disappoint, and I think it’s time the Oilers prioritize this area of the lineup. By way of example, consider the on-ice numbers from just this season for the Colorado and Vegas groupings in relation to that of Edmonton. It’s night and day:
|
Quote:
But what I’m curious about the possibility that Edmonton is containing their own player. Over a five-year horizon, Nurse’s impact to McDavid’s defensive numbers have been negligible at best, and offensively, the Nurse pairing seriously hampers what their top unit can do.

Not sure how many of you have heard of the Monday Nooner Podcast (it’s Regina based with focus on Sasky NHLers and the senior hockey leagues). Anyways. Last week they had Ryan Keller on. Former Stoon Blades captain and former semi pro player. Wish I knew how to clip and embed but I’ll just type it out from memory, this is not verbatim.
He talked about his days in the Oilers farm system. How he was having a really good year in Oklahoma. The Oilers called him up. He flew to Colorado and before the game he got told that they rescinded the call up. Their logic was he was having too good of a year in OKC and they weren’t gonna keep him up all year (it was a temporary call up) and they were worried he was going to get claimed when they had to send him back down.
He also told a story and Margnus Paaravi (sp?). Towards the end of that year they call Magnus up but it was after the deadline. It wasn’t til he got to wherever it was they were playing that management realized they had already used up all of their post trade deadline call ups and had to send him back to the farm.
Can’t make this stuff up. Keller qualified his stories at the beginning with something to the effect of “probably why my hatred of the Oilers stills runs today”.

Oh that was a long time ago… they’ve obviously changed. (or not).
Now instead of calling players up, because of Holland’s salary cap wizardry (see Darnell Nurse) they just play without a full lineup. Easy as that.

Why do they need to call anyone up now, they have the wonder twins. Just tag a few more minutes to the twins, and viola, problem solved.

this is consistent with that prospect that got away last year too . appears they don't even understand the rules of the league they work at for a career and don't seem interested in learning . they just put on suits and fap to McDavid every day
it's unfortunate that the incompetence landed them a skating cheat code to cover up the fact that they would otherwise be buffalo/arizona

Remember when Holloway scored that preseason hat trick and he was a beast? Seems like a long time ago.

Too bad they have so many Prongers or they could call Hedman up but they have no space.

He hasn't even looked close to ready for the NHL.
