I really liked what I saw of DeSimone in the Wranglers' home opener. If he has kept up that level of play, he should be good enough to fill in on the third pair.

If Stone is out for a while and Kylington is still going to be gone for a while, I would like to see us sign Sedoff and add him to the AHL for depth, if he is eligible of course.

I mean trading a 50 point Hanifin still could have returned a package with a serviceable defenseman.. hes currently on pace to be a 9 point Hanifin this season (I know he'll put up points, just playing devils advocate here)

Phillips with a hattrick tonight. He's destroying the AHL.
To everyone who said he should have been called up, it looks like you were/are right.

I was just looking at Nathan Gerbe to compare against Phillips (size). Is Phillips seriously only 140lbs? If so, he has to put on some serious weight. I can't imagine there are a lot of guys playing in the NHL under 175.
He can probably overcome the height issue, but he's going to get tossed around the ice at the weight.

Then they probably would have got a 5/6 defensemen and a middle 6 forward. Hanifin would only make sense to trade for a legit top 6 RW

Most recent listing by the AHL is 160

Yamamoto is the lightest player in the NHL according to NHL.com (153 lbs). Gaudreau is tied with Garland for the 2nd lightest at 165 lbs among full time NHL players.
Not many guys lighter than 175 lbs, but some the few who are, are actually pretty good players. I guess you would have to be to get a shot at that size.

I will continue to beat the call up Matthew Phillips drum until he finally is (hopefully). He’s got nothing left to prove at the AHL level, time to see if he can sink or swim at the NHL level, give him a good look before pursuing a top 6 option in the market.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Phillips
Mangiapane - Kadri - Dube
Coleman - Backlund - Toffoli
Lucic - Rooney - Ritchie/Lewis

well no, tons of guys tear up the AHL but don't to much in the NHL
I would be fine if he gets a shot but nobody is "right" until he is an everyday NHLer

He should absolutely get a shot but people need to temper their expectations and not jump to conclusions. If you're expecting him to be the next Gaudreau or bust, you're in for a rough ride. I think if you give him an opportunity to move the needle in the middle-six, you might find something good.
That said, he's both an elite finisher and playmaker in the AHL. Pretty hard to look past 8 goals and 13 points in 9 games.

That's awesome to see that he's following up his season last year with another great start so far. Hopefully he gets a shot and takes it and runs with it some time this year. What's his shooting percentage? Hopefully nothing too wacky and unsustainable.

His shooting percentage this year is north of 30% but he's a career 18% shooter in the AHL. One of the best finishers in that league.

first line? flip him and Toffoli to start, let him get his feet wet with a centre who has proven he can mentor (and help shelter) young players.
