You said it happens all the time.

Then you say you don't think they forced him.

I think players say they're fine when they're not all the time for sure. But that's not on the team as much as looking the other way and putting players in danger.
That's fair. I wasn't really separating player choice vs team, but looking back on your conversation I see the difference

Greg Nemisz has had about 14 years of development now...be nice if he could fill our top RW position.

I get Mackey looked better in preseason but it wasn’t by much and Valimaki is younger with more pedigree and potential.

I’m happy Valimaki got out of this nightmare situation but disappointed we didn’t give him another shot.

Really it comes down to Tre signing Valimaki to a sizeable contract a couple years back.
I think Mackey lapped him in the AHL last year too though.

Bigger sample size.

2 of your top 6 out is an issue for any team...especially Tanev who is likely #1 defensively

And Vali is playing for a team that would rather lose than win...probably easier to play "well"

They lost 7-2 but he got a goal!

he's played what two games? People complain about the Flames not calling anyone up but when the Heat's best dman from last year has a couple so-so games he is a lost cause and won't get better.

While I agree with you I just still don’t love the move.

Mackey is a full two years older than him, was undrafted and had played less than 10 games in the NHL.

It’s not only always about who is the best right now and the organization clearly understands that because they kept players on the big club that were outplayed by Zary for example.

Sending Zary down was the right call but my point is Valimaki should have been the guy to stay and I think the only reason is because of his contract that Tre signed him to.

Mackey wasn’t kicking the door down or anything. He didn’t appear to be much further ahead of a guy like Meloche if at all.

They're still young, it's a big jump to the pro league. It's tough to settle in one game. Saw it last year with Peltier in the AHL, took a few to settle in

I know it’s a small sample size and this stat is not the best to evaluate a player but his +/- would indicate he more of a help than a detriment when he is on the ice. 8GP 1G 2A +2 0PIM on his new team isn’t a bad start especially considering how bad they are.

Wondering if some confidence changes Mackeys game. A great game can really send a young player into a nice upward trend.

Maybe go back to the lines that got you to 5-1 early in the season and figure it out from there. Jersey is a good team and the Flames better be on their toes.
