The shot was in the area around the glove, where there is some net, some glove
Vladar is at the top of the crease so about 22 feet from that shot location
If the shot is 80 mph, that is 117 feet per second
The puck is in the net .19 seconds after the shot
Let’s discuss reaction time - the eye sees, that signal goes to the brain, the brain reacts by delivering a signal to the hands, and the hands have to react with a specific muscle reaction.
That lag is typically about 200 ms, or .2 s.
It just didn’t hit his body or glove. Yeah, he could have been positioned differently. But wasn’t poorly positioned
Well placed shot
|
The screen shot is just as it left Soucy's stick, not after the goal.
Reaction time being what it is, a 6'5 goalie (before skates) should not be beaten high (with room to spare in this case) over the shoulder on a clean look shot, that he has time enough to be set for (and he was).
What's the point of being 6'5 goalie if you're going to be leaving 6-8 inches in the top of the 4ft high net?

Flames allowed 5 high danger chances...they shouldn't have 5 goals against

The first goal went by his glove, not over his shoulder
And the point about reaction time is that even if you are set, there is only (percent of net covered by your entire body) chance of making the save
If the puck is on net and not hitting you, it’s a goal

you are bending over backwards to defend a poor game for some reason
he's an .800s goalie this season, needs to be better. Other goalie had this same scientific factors and made the ####ing save

Team D needs to put both goalies in a position to be better

And my point is if he stands up a bit straighter (look at his pads on the screen shot as to how low he is crouching) on a shot that he is set for, at 6'5 you have a pretty good chance to cover a 4x6 net so the puck does hit you and you don't have to react.

Poor game all around. 10.5 gets the season start pass and there is nothing there so far. Thats more than disappointing. I'm not asking for him to move heaven and earth but Jesus man. Wake up.

* got it, I see the puck
That angle is a bit misleading, showing more net than there is
Consider if the puck has eyes, what can it see? So draw a line from puck to crossbar, and a goalie out from the net should actually be somewhat below the crossbar for sure
It looks from that overhead shot like there’s a ton of room, but there really isn’t
And again, it went glove side

You never cover 100% of the net though
That’s the challenge of being a goalie
Higher stance increases risk of 5 hole goals because gravity too has its limits
Well placed shot
Yeah, he could have happened to be in front of it, but he wasn’t particularly poorly positioned imo , based on the subsequent replay view from behind the net

I don’t agree. That’s what they tried against Edmonton. Shut it down and surrender the initiative isn’t smart. What they need to do is just continue to play good Sutter hockey and keep up the forecheck and pressure. You sit back and well maybe Seattle doesn’t burn you but Avs, Vegas and Edmonton certainly will.

Things that stood out to me:
Vladar - Didn't lose us the game but didn't really save us either. Save percentage wasn't really indicative of the team leaving him hanging
Hanifin and Andersson- When they are good, they are so good, but when they are bad, they are outright awful, this game they were bad
Ruzicka - first game this season and it showed, thought he could have played with a bit more hunger but then again, he's strapped with Ritchie and Lewis
Dube - He plays so frantic at times, doesn't look at where to distribute the puck, not ready to accept the puck, doesn't utilize his speed enough
Huberdeau - expectations are high and you could see him forcing a lot out there, one of the biggest things for a good playmaker is for linemates to get open so they can "find" them, this requires time to develop familiarity on where to go and such, I don't really think guys have been knowing where to go and a lot of times not expecting the puck to come from unconventional situations or positions. 8 games, personally not enough time for an elite playmaker to excel. Add the fact that Kadri is already excelling which is why others probably expect Hubie to do the same but they play a different style and playmakers takes a bit more time

This game made me angrier than the oilers loss. At least when you're playing the dumpster fires you know the refs are on team connor so you're playing against the wonder twins as well as the refs. Here the flames were just awful. Andersson should sit the next game for his mistakes. Huberdeau needs to show up. Giving up 3 straight goals to the kraken? I hope sutter bag skates them until the preds game.

Someone with a 10.5 AAV shouldn't need 2 months to figure out how to play hockey with a new team. He should be taking the bull by the horns and making stuff happen. He's a highly ranked professional but hasn't looked like it.

Out chanced the opponent 2:1
Why is the AHL goalie at the other end able to make big saves?

A bag skate kind of kicked this 0-2 stretch off though. They made a show of having a really hard practice on the weekend and had all the local media tweeting how the team stayed on the ice longer to work. They were 5-1 at the time and it was October. Maybe being normal would suffice. might be irrelevant but it just struck me as odd.

I think the best thing for this team will be regular games...2 in 9 days is just stupid
how do you build anything?
