I don't think Domtar ever operated the site, but they are (or were in 2015) the current owner of the assets of what used to be the Canada Creosote company that operated the plant.

The new premier wants to buy some votes… 500 million towards a new event centre please. They thrown money around like drunken sailors on lots of useless, stupid things so this will be money well spent for a change.

If Smith is premier for 4 plus years you’ll probably need more than a hard hat when you leave the arena.

If nothing happens there until the city finishes East Village and finally turns its attention west, we are likely looking at more like another 20 years than 10.

Giving it a jump start, and allowing for the area to make some headway on its own, seems like a better plan to me
I think the West Village is most ideal because of the access to Crowchild and Bow Trail and it has potential to be a much nicer area but that's likely going to add a lot of years to the arena finish date.

I completely agree but we're in the minority here and there's no way the new facility is going anywhere other than a few blocks away from the Dome

i honestly think where the dome is or close to it is ideal (i'm biased because it's 10mins from my house to the dome)

They're most likely demolishing the dome, no?

They better not waste any time rehashing any previous ideas or anything that isn't about building the new arena 2 blocks north of the Saddledome.

The moment anyone mentions CalgaryNext or the West Village, the CAA ICON/City people should stand up and walk out and tell them to call when they're ready to get serious.

I don't think we have to worry, it's going to be in same vicinity as the dome, is there any reason why they can't demo the dome and put in same place or is the area just not big enough?

Uh, there would be this little issue of having no arena for three years.

True, but Commonwealth Stadium was funded 1/3 by the province and 1/3 by the federal government, IIRC.

They'll just take a page out of Arizona and play at WinSport!

They should build it at Fire Park... or Airdrie!
