The Oilers are like the NHL's Junk Drawer. Broken vets, underperforming prospects, overpaid baubles and dirty odds 'n' ends.

No. Never was relegation in the NHL. Captain must have been on something when he posted that. He knows better. He may even say he knows best! But relegation has not been an NHL thing.

Not sure if posting Insta links work. Short story is Ovechkin collects game used sticks autographed by the players. He couldn't get McDoofus' stick because Edmonton wouldn't allow that (giving away sticks).

Ouch! Thanks for the correct info.

Nothing like getting the story right and missing the punchline. Doh!

Yeah, I wish I could find it, it was a week or so ago, where he came across as unimpressed with the tempo of practices in training camp.

I don't know, it happened once, though it wasn't as much relegation as a screw job.

Prior to the NHL it was called the NHA (I think I'm going off of memory. One of the teams the Montreal Wanderers had an owner that nobody liked, so when the Owners set up a meeting to set up the NHL, the told the Wanderer's owner that the meeting was at another site, and he ended up with a one team league in the first case of a team being "Relegated" to another league.

I know it was a stretch, but I thought it would be fun to call it a relegation.

Latest puff piece by Spector: McSurly starting to mature as a person and realizing having no personality in front of the Edmonton media is a bad thing:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-for-the-game/

Quote:
As former Face of the Game Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins arrive for a Monday night meeting and their only visit to Rogers Place this season, you may have noticed his successor has become a more eloquent, patient and cooperative spokesman this season, whose answers to questions let us in more than they ever have.

...

At long last, Connor McDavid is becoming a spokesman for the game, not a prisoner of it, ready to accept the role that his otherworldly game thrust upon him long before he was ready for that part of the job.

“I am older — this is my eighth season now, and I’m starting to understand how the league works a little bit better,” McDavid said during a candid conversation Sunday afternoon, before he settled into the Chiefs-49ers game.
I don't particularly like the reference to the late Ben Stelter, and I'll spoil the ending because you probably weren't going to click anyways:

Quote:
Today, McDavid has found the confidence to admit — like a player doing extra work on faceoffs or one-timers — that he could do a better job with his media persona. That he can add to the conversation, not just survive it.

Is it a coincidence that this epiphany comes months after his young friend Ben Stelter was laid to rest, a victim of brain cancer at age 6? McDavid wasn’t sure if there was a link there, or if there isn’t.

“He certainly had an effect on me in a number of ways,” McDavid said. “It just makes you realize how precious life can be. Gives you a different perspective on life. He certainly gave me a better appreciation for the smaller things in life.”

Perhaps his media relations team, his agency, or maybe his parents or girlfriend have changed his focus. Or could it be that he’s finally figured out what awesome folks we sports writers are (kidding).

Or maybe it is as simple as this: the young superstar is simply growing up.

“Maybe a little bit of that,” he reckoned.

Then he thought about it some more.

“Yeah, I think so.”

What do you get when you have a team that's scoring 5 goals a game while allowing about 2 goals a game with a 26% powerplay and a real generational player and leader like Crosby takes on a team with an awful defense, bad penalty killing, a bad blueline, a poor bottom 6 and a inconsistent goalie.

In the words of Clubber Lang

That's borderline offensive to suggest McDavid has become better with the media because of the tragedy of Ben.

Preseason rank: #6. Now down to #14

https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2448188

"This is who Jack Campbell is. The Oilers clearly expected more out of the goaltender when they signed him to a five-year, $25-million deal over the summer. Edmonton should've foreseen some inconsistency from Campbell, whose underlying numbers were among the NHL's worst last season. But a .889 save percentage in his first four games leaves something to be desired".

Yea if I’m Edmonton I’m dreading tonight’s game. Crosby is looking like 27 YO Crosby and they have been getting pretty stellar goaltending from Jarry who outside of a so so performance against Columbus (that he still won) has been dominant in 3 of 4 starts.

Hockey guy had them number one in the power rankings on Saturday night as well. Calgary really has had a brutal schedule to start so not that big a surprise.

Here’s hoping “former Face of the Game” Crosby and Co. lay a beating on McDavid and his band of merry losers. Spector is and will always be a no good hack.

Only 8 years , "a little better" wtaf , I get hockey players are placed on a pedestal from a young age but 8 ####ing years and now your starting to get it ?

All those trips to the childrens hospital that Flames players do surely get mimicked in Dedmonton no? Do they just go and have no idea why they are there
No clue as to how it is supposed to enrichen the lives of the kids and the players themselves E=NG indeed
