Not much. I assume enough to increase the break even by maybe 50% of the material cost.

The labour on the popcorn is for sure a lot less than the poured drinks on a time consumption basis. Have you seen the giant bags of popcorn the trot out and pour into the heated containers (thus pretending its fresh).

With the Oilers (and Flames)... you must remember that the players get their cut (50% of hockey related revenue) so immediately that revenue gets cut in half... so $36.50 becomes $18.25.... and then the venue is only opened for limited hours, so you have to make money when you can, this increases the amount... but yes, they are gouging because they can and really must in today's sports economics. Tim Horton's was the best value at the Saddledome until they were basically kicked out because they refused to charge "sport" prices.
Crazy thought, they could hold the cap steady to control prices for fans. I know they won't, because business is all about maximizing profit. The fact is, they only care about fans in that they are a commodity to be exploited to the maximum.

Can you imagine the central popping location...

Giant vats of oil and kernels...in the basement maybe ?

Or would you outsource it to a Factory in the industrial park ??

Well clearly the Oilers aren't stupid because people are buying their food at ridiculous prices. It's very simple, if people stopped buying popcorn and pop for $36, than I guarantee prices would drop dramatically. People are stupid and only have themselves to blame. There is zero chance I would purchase popcorn and pop for $36, but clearly there are many others out there who either have loads of money or simply don't care and will pay what they are told. I just don't understand why more people don't eat before a game or else go to a restaurant before/after instead. If I'm going to pay high prices may as well be in a nice restaurant and be served at my own table.

As long as it doesn't cut into their 50/50 budget.

Had a look at the Calgary version from 2019. Long list of winners, but the only real chain in all the winners wasn't even a pizza chain but a restaurant chain ... East Side Marios.

Rest were local.

Does Calgary let the chains in? If not then I guess we can't make too much fun of the Edmonton list. But even if they didn't, would Dominos beat some of the mom/pop/local winners?

Any time someone refers to any chain restaurant, ESPECIALLY PIZZA as the "best" you've lost all credibility with me.

Sell it to a gullible oilers fan for way more than it's worth.

Which is interesting, because it is worth nothing.....but don't tell them that.
