Celebrated Square Root Day

I think Kadri is going to be an even better player on the Flames than Colorado even if last years point total isn't matched or exceeded.
He learned what it takes to win a cup and be a complete, team driven player and it shows. Now he has a team where he's arguably the second/third best player and you can tell he's taking a mentor role and looks absolutely pumped to get himself and everyone on the team playing the way it takes to win it all.
His energy on the bench and ice is infectious. What an incredible signing.

Man late to the party but what a nail biter of a win that was. Those last few seconds I was literally holding my breath in my seat. Was nice to see so many flames fans counter the Oilers chants all night and were just as loud when goals were scored.
One thing I really noticed was that Huby's vision is frickin insane. Guy brings a whole new dimension to the PP and that 1st unit looked deadly all game long.

Great result!
I’m covering old ground here, but I intentionally had the tv on mute and listened to fan960. Even although there was a delay, it made all the difference not being forced to listen to cheerleading for 3 hours. I did give in during the first intermission of what was one of the most dominating periods of hockey we’ve seen from the flames, and in truth a post and crossbar away from 6-1. What greeted me?
For a national broadcast, ie a supposedly “neutral” point of view, we were greeted with a full out fellation of the oilers and Ron Maclean’s dream teddy bear, Mavi. I turned the audio off before it even got to the first gambling ad.
Listen to me Rogers. I’m your primary demographic. I have disposable time and income and I’m the one that you need to care about. I’ve left hockey and I’m leaving your advertisements behind. I’m only interested in the Flames now. You have driven me away from the sheer exhilaration of hockey. If I hadn’t played at a mediocre level I’d believe that all hockey was able to provide is fawning broadcasting with inexplicable power plays. One or two players on one team.
What I saw in the first intermission was as if it had been recorded days ago. Cardboard cutouts spouting some infantile lines about a player that was wrong and had a big waaah. No analysis of the actual game or why the Flames were dominant.
Everyone can pick at least two oiler sycophants on the broadcast crew. Is there a flames balance? Friedman? What a lackey.
It reminded me of why I’ve left hockey. Even the most basic understanding of the game is vastly superior to what is broadcast on snet and HNIC. Analysis? No. Insight? Nada. Fanboys? Why yes, yes there’s that. And that’s what is wrong.
Remember Peter Puck? Howie Meeker? I was really young but I sure learned a lot about the game. Now? We get Edmonton Eskimo and Qmjhl highlights.
So buh bye.
And go flames go.

they stick to a script and agenda regardless of what is going on in the games . which is extremely lazy especially for people that have the nuts to call themselves analysts . they analyze nothing these days . they just felate and spin conflicting reality in whatever way to fit the narrative that darryl katzes steed upstairs told them to run with . only bieksa every once in a while comes out with an honest assessment , and he's always met with brief dumbfounded silence before they go back to reading off their scripts
ron maclean is so unreceptive to anything that isn't "oilers are love. oilers are life" that he may as well be declared medically senile

After 2 games, only 4 players have not registered a point yet (Hanifin, Zadorov, Lewis, Tanev). That is pretty impressive. Only Toronto is better with 3. Half the league still has 8 or more players that have not registered a point.
Still early, but it's a good sign.

Dosen't sound like substance abuse for sure.
Take it as a grain of salt but IMo there's a potentially terminal illness in play either him or someone close. Either its in the process of testing for an illness or something has come up and it's the beginning stages of him or a close relation is at the beginning stages/ treatment and they are not ready to fully come out about it.
Just my 2cents from experience with that sort of thing. There's a part of that sort of process with it being you or a close person to you essentially just being in a almost purgatory state for a while.

In Jonathan Drouin’s case, the problem turned out to be concerns around anxiety and insomnia.

You have a career hockey intro guy who's claim to fame is second banana to Cherry, an insider who was good at that kind of stuff but mostly knows agents and GMs and is in no way an analyst, leaving two players, one of whom was not NHL.

Sportsnet needs to find a guy like Tony Romo does for football. A guy that understands the game, but also knows how to speak to it.
Even yesterday I was watching Chiefs-Bills, every other analyst and even Vegas have this as being a huge high scoring game.
Nope not Romo.
In the first quarter he's talking about how the teams are going to play safe defense and make the teams take the patient route to score, predicts that the scoring with be 24-20 or something like that.
Final score - 24-20 with Romo providing strong analysis the entire way.
For hockey specifically I actually find that ex-coaches tend to be better analysts than ex-players. Just see and think the game differently, similar to QBs in football.
They should also go back to having defined intermission topics and bring on the right people to speak to those topics.
Friedman is great but he shouldn't be analyzing the game. Stick to having him talk more about insider discussion like the hot stove lounge used to be.
Have Bieksa/Former Player/Coaches speaking more to the actual on-ice game.
Fire Ron Maclean into the sun.

I think Tre’s request to the media to respect privacy and not ask further questions should extend to fans as well. Sure there may be hints and if you sleuth through you might be able to make educated guesses, but I would rather not even entertain this. Especially would not post on a public forum trying to pin down the reason for his absence when the team explicitly asked for privacy.

Problem is they are spending a lot on those 5 guys and alot on guys behind them. Foegele, Puljujarvi and Yamamoto make over $10 mil of the cap but hardly play and are young guys that probably want a bigger role. At least Yamamoto and Puljuravi. All 3 aren't the Backlund Coleman type that excel in a shut down role or a PK role. It's just to much money on guys who want to score and not play a PK/shut down role. If they want guys like Hyman, Kane and Nuge behind McDavid and Leon then they probably are better off moving on from Puljujarvi and Yamamoto and going with guys like Holloway in their roles and using that money on a good dman.
Problem is they paid Nurse way too much and Campbell could be the next player that his contract is looking very very bad. They can't afford these mistakes
|
There's the problem,
We know Mavi and Raisaitl can put up lots of points - at the expense of giving up more against than they should.
RNH for the majority of his career (with maybe 1 year of exception), has been a poor man's Backlund (but paid more).
Hyman is ok, but doesn't move the needle much.
Kane has a small sample size - generally playing with McDavid. Yes, he's been getting the goals, but mostly because of who he's playing with. I still don't see any reason to think that he's a long term solution.
Beyond that, they have no forward who can bring any value on a consistent basis.

At 5 on 5 the Flames have 2 forwards below 50% in expected goals for.
Toffoli and Lewis.
Interesting that these 2 were the guys pinpointed as key players (Toffoli) and guy we needed to upgrade on (Lewis)
If Tofolli can start to find the back of the net on his chances this team coul keep rolling.

I don't watch much football anymore but wasn't this an ongoing joke for a while? Romo consistently calling the play ahead of time and always being one step ahead of both coaches.
