Skinner had a great game, really the difference there. Now here's the fun part:
Maybe Skinner is a great goalie, maybe he had a lucky night. Either way, he’s on a minimum contract and will need to be re-signed next year, and the Oilers have about 37 cents of cap space, with Campbell on a 5x5 crowding him out. Good luck, Edmonton!

Something I'd like to see is an adjustment to the bottom 6.
Rooney was good with Backlund and Coleman. Let's see if they can be more of a threat than they are with Lewis. I really like Lewis, but but not there.

On L4, I really think it's time for Lucic to take a seat more often than not. I've never loved Ritchie, but he has decent speed and he definitely plays with jam. I'd like to see Ruzicka between Lewis and Ritchie for a while, to see what happens.

Ruzicka still has a ways to go to be a regular player for this team, but he's not going to get there on the bench. He's a good skater with nice hands and questionable effort. Maybe put him with 2 incredibly hard working guys and he'll learn something about being accountable.

I love Lucic, honestly, but he's just too slow. So many times last night the puck got away on him and he couldn't chase it, or he lost a footrace, or gave it away because he got caught. He's a liability we can't really afford.

I think Kadris hands and vision game is more likely to age well with his contract. I’m not worried at all.

Yeah, I really missed being in the box for Mulaney. I had to settle for front row seats. And yeah, it’s a DB move to go to a comedy show and have watch TV. If a comedian has to tell you that from the stage, then you know.

It’s an old video from 2015 or so, when the Flames absolutely blew them out.

It’s obviously old. But even so it’s super weird (IMO) to be mad enough at your home team to boo and shout abuse at them as they are walking by. I mean, I love hockey and love the Flames but at the end of the day one of the best things about being a sports fan is you have literally nothing riding on all of this drama—you get to go home and sleep in your own bad no matter what. Going somewhere after a game just to catch a glimpse of the home team and… shout abuse at them strikes me as an ultra bizarre way to enjoy your evening.

A bit like throwing your own $200 jersey on the ice I guess.

The great part about that game was the big guns for the oilers didnt have much. Maybe Sutter was right about the middle of the ice. I didnt notice Kane after the first period at all.

Seems to me when the flames start chasing the oilers thats when the oilers seem to get all their quality chances. I think there is still a way to completely negate them offensively just I guess the coaching staff hasn't figured it out yet lol

So you are still 8/10 for 70 percent of the game. Feels like one of those two are ALWAYS on the ice. I hate that team.

I thought that was the least effective McDavid has looked against the Flames in awhile.
I also noticed at least twice where Draisatl entered the zone, slowed to make a play and was caught by back pressure and turned the puck over.

I think this version of the team can check those players better than last year.

now I don't know if this is true or not (Michaels implied Woodcroft said this in a presser) but why in the world as a coach would you bring that up and I guess discredit your opponent, I don't understand the psychology there
 |
It's absolutely true and I was a little surprised that he brought it up, it's pretty stupid really. Woodcroft is just really immature as a coach, he fits right in with that group. The team and fans will turn on him quickly when things spiral.

Let's be honest. The Flames have two "first lines," and thank god that they do. Because while one of them is taking the time to sort things out, the other one is blowing the doors off of opposing teams. It will be glorious when they both start clicking, and I think it is coming.

Sutter really is the role player whisperer.
Brett Ritchie is a completely different player from when Sutter got here. He's a big part of the effectiveness of the 4th line right now. He's not just a big body energy guy who is also a possession black hole. He's become a decent player in his role.

Given Rooneys skill set, hopefully Sutter has the same effect on him
