- Akim Aliu is a bad representative for the Hockey Diversity Alliance because he had a journeyman career and is therefore unqualified to speak on these issues.
- Akim Aliu bounced around from team to team because he was a problem. Racism is not to blame but his own personal failings.
- Racism cannot not factor in to Akim Aliu's career at all, because Wayne Simmonds had a stable NHL career.
Crossing a line and using very stupid logic to do it. He thinks he made a point by invoking Wayne Simmonds but it's obviously backfiring immensely, maybe enough to force his retirement.

Is Simmons the only media that didn't like the Weager deal?

I am assuming that Simmons was inferring that perhaps alui is a bit of a troublemaker.
If that was what he was inferring, you likely need to examine how alui was treated as a person on those teams. Also where some of those seasons with some teams cut short due to being called up.
I see Steve is hearing about this column on social media, so it will be interesting to see if Steve or sun media address this

The thing about the column is that it is completely unnecessary unless there's some shirty motivations behind it.
Why is Aliu's personality relevant to anything? Clearly the people involved with the movement believe in him (Dumba, Simmonds, etc). Clearly the movement is important or out wouldn't have so much support.
So why is the personality traits of its main spokesperson so worthy of an article unless there's a desire to discredit it's goals? There's no large readership interested in the failings of Aliu apart from massive a certain type of people...

I think a lot of you are getting a little bent out of shape here. I have always disliked Simmons but hot takes are his thing as he's been doing this kind of stuff forever.

This is not just a Simmon's "hot take".
It's blatant racism and should result in him being fired. Which it will be.
The fact he's being doing this "for years" doesn't make it allowable under existing values.
If you think anyone is unnecessarily getting "a little bent out of shape", you really don't understand what is going on.
Simmon's should be fired for simply be so ignorant as to think this was a permissable article.

Is it racism or does he simply not like Aliu? Aliu alluded in his video that Simmons has been talking negatively about him for some time. That's what Simmons does with people he doesn't like just as was illustrated posts prior with Brian Burke. I totally agree that it was a bad take an all but I see this are more of a dig at the person than some whole racism thing it's being blown up as. Simmons could be a racist for all I know but he could also simply not like Aliu. I think Simmons should have been fired years ago because he does this kind of stuff but it's been allowed forever so...

I can see the point Simmons was trying to make. However, you can’t make that point without supporting evidence. It would come across completely different if he had an article quoting a bunch of ex-teammates and ex-managers of Aliu about him being a bad teammate/player/person.
You can be a ####ty person and still be a victim of racism the two aren’t mutually exclusive. The problem is that neither we nor Simmons know what happens in locker rooms behind closed doors. This makes Simmons an idiot for speculating without supporting evidence, and I hope he gets sued for defamation of character unless he can provide more than speculation.

When Simmons brought Wayne Simmonds into it, be made it about race.
The fact "it's been allowed forever" is not relevant. Surely you've noticed sanctions being taken over things "that have been allowed forever".

It is his opinion. Not everyone has to come to the exact same conclusions about this article. We should be able to have discussions where there are several valid opinions. I don’t think EEs opinion was offensive, just a different take on it… if you disagree that is ok. I don’t necessarily agree, but I don’t think there was anything inherently wrong about his post or argument.

Simmons has been writing spiteful takes for decades. Let's not pretend he hasn't been doing this for years or forget an editor approved this just like editors have been approving his vitriol for decades. I've always been at the front of the fire Steve Simmons line. If he get fired a spiteful take on a colored man then great but I still don't see anything here pointing to racism. It's more of a bad take from a man that clearly doesn't understand the room. His inclusion of Simmonds in the article further prove how much he misjudged things. I'm just not going to assume he's sitting in a white robe and mask because he did what he always does to someone of color.

Sorry, your take is wrong. I'm not going to explain it. Take the time to read Wayne Simmonds' response and listen to Aliu's response. And if you still stand by your opinion afterwards then I think you have a blind spot.

He likely won't be fired. He has created engagement with this take and has created traffic to The Sun's site that normally wouldn't go there so, mission accomplished.
Thank you to those people that have posted what he said because that meant I was able to avoid clicking on the site and contributing to their game.

Eric and Steve go way back. They’re former roommates and as I understand it, remain very close friends. I read a lot into the company one keeps.

Hey man, why are you getting so bent out of shape about me punching my kids in the back of the skull? I've been doing it forever, and my dad did it to me. It's never been a problem before so why now?
