You haven't really made it until there's a "Mike Gould is being an idiot" thread on CalgaryPuck.

I think that was the thread where the mods banned users from creating polls because I was starting too many on FoI.

When Simmons left Calgary for Toronto, it was summed up by saying “Toronto’s loss is Calgary’s gain”

Not only is Simmons a racist, he fails at logic as well. Who cares what Akim’s rep or ability was. Part of that had to do with what happened to him. Sheldon Kennedy was a similar guy and no one complains that he’s the spokesman for issues around abuse of players.

I don't even understand his point?
A guy that spent at least 15 years playing junior then pro hockey wouldn't know what's wrong within the culture of hockey??? What's the threshold for games played in the NHL before you "would know"?
I would say someone who played for 23 different teams across 9 leagues would know better than most.

What an absolute #### bag of a person.

I read this article today and was baffled by this comment from Simmons. He work up and out of the blue decided to criticize Aliu’s hockey ability?

Don't think it is completely out of the blue. A few days ago Aliu alleged there were kids being called racial slurs at a GTHL game. The coverage of this story was probably what caused Simmons to lash out at Aliu.

Simmons is a creepy clickbait geek. There’s no other way of putting it. The Sun is based on such nonsense much of the time. It’s a blue collar newspaper and he plays to it. It's one thing to outright say that Alia was a #### teammate but it’s another thing to say it was all because of that that things didn’t work out. Prejudice injustice rears its head in many facets of a persons life and it likely did here. For him to discredit is disingenuous and he knows it but knows it’ll spread like wildfire. His publication allows it because they like click bait. He knows it and did it anyway.

Wayne Simmonds’ tweet is so cringy as well. Just say you’ll sue him. The veiled tough guy talk sounds so dumb when written. God man these guys all need to take a pill.

When the Flames came to Calgary, I lapped it all up. I wanted to read everything about them. Everything. Everywhere.

The upside was learning so much from Eric Duhatschek. His articles were always insightful, humorous and engaging. They were always well researched, knowledgeable and enjoyable. A writing style that was kind yet critical where needed and always with the best of intentions.

The downside was.Steve Simmons. He was the polar opposite. Even as a 13 year old kid, I saw right through him and what was important to him. The reader, the players or whoever he directed his bile against were all inconsequential to him.

Decades later, it genuinely annoys me, that this parasite who in a long career, never provided a single positive contribution to it, has made a living from it. That is just so wrong.

Like Tim and Sid (or whomever replaced Sid are pretty good) but the flagship sports reporters from Toronto sucks. Well tbh Francis isn’t much better.

Yeah, Francis is filling a different media role. He trolls for sure. If the fanbase is united on A he writes a column supporting B. If things are going well he prods that things are going to go bad soon. If things are going bad he suggests things are good and the fan base are stupid and overreacting.

He's a contrarian as a hockey reporter, a contrarian with contacts and legit info from time to time. He's also a really kind human being that would never in a million years say anything racist or discriminatory.

Yeah I made that distinction later. Francis is annoying but mostly harmless. I don’t understand the Toronto sports media. Just a race to see who can have the most vitriol.

Well, he is and also has been a writer for Sun news media. I'd love to never hear or read anything by Simmons ever again but I doubt his replacement will be much better.

How this idiot has had a platform for as long as he has is astounding. The sooner he finally loses it the better.
