Why did they pick Zohorna only to waive him a couple days later?

They picked him because they thought he might be a good fit. They waived him because they found out he wasn't.

Sometimes you just gotta go with the simplest explanation.

They realized their two forward PTOs weren’t going to cut it, so they took a shot on another freebie. Didn’t work either.

So you're saying that any team with a great coach likely won't play him so he should go somewhere where the coach doesn't know what he's doing?

Zohorna had 2 pre season games to learn a entirely new system with guys he'd never met. Pittsburgh probably picks him back up

I'm highly disappointed I jumped the gun and bought a valimaki jersey after his draft year.

Most will say Zary needs time in the minors but he was the best out of all the guys trying to get the last spot, I don't see why he shouldn't get a shot to play on the top 9.

Valimaki looked so good when he entered the league. He was on the cusp of making the lineup at a really young age. His injury must’ve made a huge impact. It’s really too bad. If he didn’t get injured, I think he would’ve had a great career.

I wonder if they’re waiting to see what happens with OK and whether they’re going to get cap relief. Purely speculation on my part. I have no doubt Stone is going to get a contract.

I’d be shocked if Valimaki isn’t snagged by someone. Just the Sabres alone who I follow, he’d get an immediate look on the bottom pair for sure.

Valimaki has been terrible for a while, not sure anyone takes that salary and puts him on their roster

I suspect the plan is to sign a contract the day after opening day. That way they can be under the cap with Kylington, then put him on LTIR (or get relief) and then add Stone.

I'm really curious as to the rational by you guys? To me he's looked really bad since coming back from major injury. Like, middling AHL bad. Other teams can see what he's doing.

I mean the only rational for picking up Valimaki on waivers to see if he suddenly ****s gold is mitigated by his larger cap hit, imo. It's a cap league, and you've got an AHL level prospect farting around due to major past injuries at a not insignificant cap hit.

Just not seeing what you guys are seeing at all. I'd figure that's a no brainer waiver clear.

Y’all acting like he’s getting kid $4m or something. He makes $1.5 for one more season. Lots of teams with lots of room to fit that in to see if a former first rounder might turn it around in a different system. I guess we’ll see
Tomorrow.

"Ya'll" ain't acting like anything. Teams typically factor in a double league minimum salary pretty heavily when deciding whether to take a flyer on players that are toiling in the AHL, absolutely. Most teams aren't the Sabres, farting around with middling players and never going anywhere.

I'd actually love to be proven wrong, as that's an annoying salary to have on the books, but I'm not seeing it happen. Best bet with Valimaki is to trade for another struggling prospect with a $1-$1.5mil salary.

You're underrating cap space relative to recent success or lack-thereof of a prospect.

Flames had a former first rounder that scored 14 goals in the NHL last year on a PTO and cut him

Sort of. Saying Sutter’s not a Valimaki fan.

They didn't dump him. He is not going to get better riding the press box and getting lit up in the nhl. He lost 2 full years of development time. He needs high quality minutes to try and make up the time. He can only do that in the AHL.
