but I just don't think that there was a market for his services other than Edmonton.
Yeah, I highly doubt he went "I can make more leaving Edmonton to go to this team, but I want to keep playing with Connor and Leon soooooooo bad so I'll give them a discount to stay".

If you ask Oilers fans that’s exactly what happened
I hope Milano can make the cut. He has the best track record of the hopefuls to give second line scoring even if fragility limits him to 60 games. For a 900k plus or minus contract? I will take that.
There's no responding to the multiple quotes without derailing this thread even further, so I'll abstain.
My opinion was boldly, perhaps too boldly, stated and invited some scrutiny. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to not siding with the Flames can do no wrong mob, and yes, I'm an avid Flames fan.[/B]
I don't think this is what happened here—you are not a victim of your level-headed refusal to promote Flames propaganda; you are a victim of promoting an obviously anecdotal opinion in the face of actual data.

I think this board has seen better times though when it comes to contrarian opinions, having reasonable discourse around that, and not being outright abrasive towards them. Anything not derogatory towards the Oilers is a no-fly zone.
It is just a fact that any positive opinion of the Oilers is going to get absolutely trounced on this board. I don't see the sense in pining for otherwise.

Stop playing the victim...what you said about Kane is flat out wrong...it's not about homer opinions
If Kane actually had 7 or 8M offers he would have signed one...or at the very least it would have been reported. Look at what the actual high end UFAs got this year, ones who didn't have a mountain of baggage.
As far as attracting FAs Markstrom and Kadri were higher ranked than any UFA the Oilers have ever signed...not based on my "homer takes" but based on TSN, Sportsnet, Athletic, ect. lists.

Yield. Call off the hounds. You want me to stop ‘defending’ Kane then stop quoting me. I’ve stated my unpopular opinion. Any further retorts and I’m the one derailing this thread.

You took the facts presented and instead of admitting you just might be wrong you blamed it on us being homers and not allowing other opinions. I'm gonna respond to that considering even Oiler homer Sportsnet ranks Calgary's recent UFAs higher and it's common knowledge Kane didn't have much interest considering he has cleared waivers multiple times in the last year.
If you actually don't want to derail the thread more maybe stop making excuses and let it go...you were wrong but nobody bats 1000

Anecdotal opinion it may be. Data is he signed his contract. It is pure speculation on my part that it’s below market, and that playing with a generational player gives Edmonton a nudge, all else equal, when it comes to recruiting talent.

All this hype talk about Sonny Milano being the biggest name remaining out there, and posters at CP getting hyped up about him -- and nobody offers him anything but a PTO. Can't make this stuff up. How do posters latch onto particular names and hype them up year after year?

He is certainly the best PTO out there going by age and last seasons stats
and even among UFAs who else is still out there? its a pretty low bar
34 points in 66 games and is 26...he certainly is an interesting player and not just on CP, lots of fan bases were hoping their team would give him a shot based on social media reaction. Injury issues seem to be the main concern, far worse players have secured contracts.
Honestly if he has a really good camp I wouldn't be surprised if someone swooped in and snatched him...Flames cant offer much more than league minimum. This is a player who not too long ago was a highly rated first rounder who was a big time scorer win the CHL and AHL. 14 goals last season including the goal of the year (although that had a lot to do with the pass but nice hand eye)
