I haven't seen one post from a pro-Monarchy person saying anything disparaging about those who are against it. But the pile on against people who feel that standing in line for 40 hours to see the coffin for 15 seconds is worth it, that's what I find disgusting.

Sure, if you've been indoctrinated to believe the royals are somehow above you then I suppose it's rational to have an emotional reaction to her inevitable death. FWIW, it's not a tragedy or anything. She was old as balls.

For anybody who hasn't been indoctrinated to worship royalty as though they're above us commoners, then watching people wait in line for 14 hours to mope past a wood box that may or may not hold her body is - objectively - bizarre.

So yeah, we can see it from your side. You were raised since birth to:
- bow/curtsy to her
- never walk in front of her
- not talk to her if you're sitting to her left (she'll only talk to the person sitting to her right, but may get back to you if you're on her left)
- address her as "Your Majesty"
- not speak to her unless spoken to
- not sit until she sits
- not leave an event before her unless you've received permission through a private secretary
- turn your back on her

Like, go nuts if you want to self subjugate to another human being, but surely it's not difficult to see why other people - absent of indoctrination - would not have any interest in any of the above. It's not different than people getting all excited about Trump, the Pope, Hitler, or any other leader throughout history. Some of us just aren't into worship.

Did you even read the post you quoted? Belisarius isn’t expecting anyone else to care about the monarchy. He just questioned why people who don’t care are going out of their way to piss on people who do. The mounties look impressive because they're colonial era relics that were used to put down rebellion in one of the Empire's frontier territories, they were designed to look oppressive and imposing (and even then, slightly less so than their Redcoat cousins). It is actually kind of strange that we continue to champion them as peak Canadiana. They represent the exact times we otherwise try to collectively ignore/forget about.

Meh, I like the Monarchy. I wouldn't go in person to a funeral or anything like that, but from a historical point of view, I just find it interesting. I don't want it to have power or to actually do anything, but see no reason to abandon it either

But why keep it an all it's trappings if does nothing and has no power. Hanging onto a concept of a Family Ordained by God as being better than all the other people blows my mind.

There is no use for the Monarchy especially as it is based on a repugnant concept like being Divinely Ordained.
