I can't imagine doing anything for that long continuously.
When I flew to Australia, it was a 15 hour flight from San Francisco to Sydney and that nearly broke me.

Also, you want respect? What about respecting the people:

2. That are having medical appointments to diagnose serious ailments postponed - and by postponed, I mean not getting another appointments for weeks while serious ailments develop further.
3. That are having operations some have waited - and I’m not exaggerating, have waited years for and may actually die before their next appointment because the already longest waiting lists in the history of the National Health Service are being added to unnecessarily.
People are even being advised not to be seen riding a bicycle during the funeral because it is ‘disrespectful’. Councils have cordoned off bicycle racks as a mark of respect with the punishment of a fine and your bicycle removed if you secure it to a bicycle rack.
A holiday park even went as far as saying those staying there would have to leave for the day of the funeral and come back the following day. That’s right, they were going to kick everyone out - mid stay, and have them come back to complete their stays later. They recanted when people went nuts about it.
If you want citations, because the above is ####ing unbelievable, I can provide them.
Yeah, I felt a bit sad when the queen passed - but the sycophancy and the 10 days of this BS has sickened me. I’ve even joined an organisation dedicated to abolishing this circus.
god save the king because I don’t want to go through this crap again any time soon.

They should do this regularly as a matter of course.

Attempting to put something positive (from a Canadian perspective) in this thread:
RCMP will lead the funeral procession from Westminster Abbey to Westminster Arch.

The council in relation to the bike racks later clarified why they were taking that action, which seems sensible.

Apparently Sandra Oh is part of the Canadian delegation attending the funeral. It would be funny if she was specifically invited because the Queen was huge fan of Grey's Anatomy or Killing Eve.

Pretty cool that Beckham lined up with the commoners to pay his respects to the Queen.

In the UK the Royals are the figurehead for a class system that does vast damage to the UK and the country would be far, far, far, better off as republic, the family itself is weird, at times reprehensible and the Windsor's themselves would be healthier if they were retired
Lining up 15 or 20 hours to shuffle past a coffin of someone you have never met and has had no practical positive effect on your life is pretty bizarre

It’s realistically the end of, or at least massive shift of, a thousand years of tradition rooted in a world no longer existing. It’s a hugely momental event with a gravitas that will be unparalleled the world over.
I’ve spent more time on CP. who the #### are we to judge.

So. Anybody watch this? How is everyone's day of mourning going?
Oddly enough, my MIL is British and couldnt care less, consider her opinion similar to undercoverbrother's but less polite, I cant even repeat what she said on this forum. In fact I cant believe the topic of Monarchy never came up in all our years but yeah....suffice it to say, she's not a fan.
But my mom loves this kind of thing so I asked her and she re-watched the Platinum Jubilee instead.
"Its just happier."
Fair enough.

My Mom sent me play by play texts. Her enthusiasm and love of all things 'pomp and circumstance' as she calls it was so infectious that I didn't have the heart to tell her that I DGAF.

Its a Funeral. It doesnt have a ton of highlights. I'm kind of curious as to what those would even be.

Oh...wait until the Coronation.
People are thinking that Chucky is going to have a small, low-key Coronation, but at the same time he's been sitting on his hands waiting for this for decades probably planning for it so it could also be insanely over the top.
And he's probably not going to be King for long so he may as well milk it.

I was looking forward to the first Question Period with the new CPC leader after the lengthy summer break but I forgot that the funeral shut down government operations.

Nothing of value ever comes from these. I didn't think I'd ever read that someone looked forward to them. Were you hoping to count up how many times Pollivere said "Justinflation", thinking he's clever?
