Perhaps part of it is the perceived loyalty.
Andersson was drafted and developed by the Flames. Part of the prominent Swedish culture. Has no home city within North America. Signed a long contract way before it was necessary. He has also been remarkably healthy.
As far as Americans go, Hanafin seems pretty loyal as well. But there will always be question marks. I think he took a big step last year.
Andersson has always had more of a bite than Hanafin. You often see Andersson in scrums after the play. Even if he doesn't through a ton of big hits.

Yes, agreed. But we’re also more shallow at RW than D, so the idea makes sense as a discussion point. It’s not “hate” of Hanifin. That’s the entirety of my point.

And yet it's always Hanifin that people want to trade, and they don't mind creating a hole at least as big as the one they say they want to fill. It's a lot easier to win when you're shallow at one wing position than when you're short of good defencemen.

Yes, around and around we go, he’s valuable and we have a lot of great D.

Wait, we can't trade Dube for a first line RW? We have to give up someone good to get someone good???

Andersson is also signed for 2 additional years at a lower cap hit than Hanifin.
As others have mentioned, trade proposals involving Hanifin have nothing to do with not liking the player. You have to give up quality to get quality back.

I can understand if people were suggesting Hanifin for a third line guy or a second round pick or saying "addition by subtraction" but the trade proposals seem to be for actual good guys.
I do agree with the assessment on Hague, I do think he could explode in the right situation. Imagine him turning into a someone like Pronger...

See, in the big games in the playoffs I was dumbfounded by Ras’ decision making. As much as Hanifin’s performance against the Oilers gets flack around here, for me many of those were forced turnovers that ended up in our net. For Ras, the 4 on 2 pinches when McDavid was on the ice, in an elimination game at a critical juncture, left me shaking my head.
I’ll take the steadier Hanifin who could have benefitted from a less reckless partner, in the playoffs at least.

We have 4 really good D and a couple more. I don’t think removing a top 4 D is worth the kind of RW you could get. No elite RW is being moved because they are, well, elite. I think in any situation in which you trade Hanifin for a RW, Hanifin is the better player. And now you have a huge hole at D, one that’s not filled by Kylington, Zadorov, Stone, Mackey or Valimaki.

I think that pairing of Hanifin and Andersson both showed a lack of ("veteran") composure in the playoffs and it's one of the reasons why Tanev stood out so much. To put it more clearly, our more inexperienced defensemen looked inexperienced and it hurt us.
Andersson's bad pinches, Hanifin's giveaways.
Even in saying that though - had we not lost Tanev and had Zadarov not been playing with cracked ribs, I think that series plays out completely different - even with Markstrom being as bad as he was. We were almost good enough to overcome the inexperience.
Damn, I'm jacked up for this season. Hanifin, Andersson, and Kylington all a year older and we bolster our veteran (Tanev, Zadarov) with Weegar - that's a damn fine crew of 6. If Valimaki can put it together? Wow.

Dube, Valimaki and a 2026 3rd... but they would have to take Lucic to offset salaries

The same Johnny Gaudreau that has never been injured from a hit in over 600 games played?

And Lucic more than offsets Dube's value

I would trade Hanifin for Nylander or something like that...it would have to be a pretty high end winger
