I would love the option to remove all PBP and Color and just watch the game with rink sounds only. It would resemble actually being at the dome.

Thrilled to have Ball / Hrudey back again.

Now for the love of god please let Wills / Loubardias go on the road to call games again, that was awful having them call road games off a monitor in a little room. Amazed they did as good of a job as they did under the circumstances. Surely you can have your radio PBP team with you again on the road coming out of the pandemic here.

What are you going to do now that you're not putting up with it?

Ball is the best.

Kelly & Cassie ramble too much, but at least Ball and Kelly have good chemistry so it works.

Both Kelly and Cassie overcompensating to try to not sound like Flames homers by glorifying the Oilers is a bit much though.

I haven't tried this yet. But I have a theory that I need to test out when games are on.

I have a 7.1 setup on my TV. If memory serves me correct, I thought the PBP only came from the center channel. So if I disconnect the wire from the back on Hockey games, it should only have rink sounds coming through the rest of the speakers.

Praying this works.

Time for the obligatory,

I miss Ed Whalen with John Garret/ Harry Neale/John Davidson/Mickey Redmond/Gary Dornhoefer and Jim Van Horne as host on CFAC 2&7.

With the Saturday Night Hockey Night in Canada legends Don Whitman, Bob Cole, Howie Meeker.

And a glory days version of Peter Maher.

Sigh

I too loved Ed Whalen. But I do wonder if a lot of these are nostalgic memories that if we had a chance today to watch a full game with Whalen and Garrett doing color, if we'd get annoyed by things now that we didn't care about before?

Agreed, it probably is more nostalgic than anything else, but I feel that generation of announcers where a lot better, than today's caliber. I'm old get off my lawn.

I found this years world juniors on TSN to be almost unlistenable as the color guy was always talking.

Agree. I like Hrudey more when he throws some love to other teams. So much better than Brian Hayword for instance.

Count me in the group that's glad to see Ball/Hrudey/Leslie back again. It's true that they make good amount of friendly banter and jokes between one another during the play, but that's what I love about them; I can see what's going on the screen. Adding personality to the telecast with genuine friendliness and chemistry makes them a pleasure to listen too. It's not over done, and they're good at calling the game and making insightful comments related to it most of the time.

And who knows, this might be the trend for future play-by-play teams in sports. Monday Night Football's Peyton & Eli broadcast indicates that there is a demand for more casual commenting of the game itself. And there's plenty of youtubers who have an audience in discussion current events in sports due to their personality.

It's really hard to find a duo that's much better. They honestly could be national level, and it wouldn't feel out of place I think.

Let me know, if it does I will go get a 7.1 setup.

Purely from a PBP point of view Ed wasn't great. But we all loved him because it was Ed. He had such a great personality and clear love of the game that shone through.

Peter for me is the GOAT. Just fantastic including understanding the emotional levels of the game.

But I will tell you: I think Rick Ball is close. He's f'n good.

The radio guy on the other hand...

Hrudey for the most part has short comments in his review of a play. Cassie wil ramble on and on to a make a point and I often find myself yelling at the screen telling Cassie to shut up already. She needs to condense her comments.

His excitement for the game was a big thing for me with Whalen. He would get excited before games by saying "Hello hockey fans". He may not have been the best but I give him credit for putting his love for the game in his broadcasts.

This seems fairly silly to me. The only time Hrudey's bias comes through is in Oilers games. There are only three games with Edmonton this year; two of which will be on HNIC. This means that Hrudey will doing colour for a total of ONE Oilers/Flames game this year. ONE. Given how great the chemistry is between Ball and Hrudey, one game seems like an incredibly small drawback to what is otherwise a stellar duo.

I am not a fan of Derek Wills, but have to give credit where credit is due: his call on Matt Stajan's series winning goal v. Vancouver in 2015 is absolutely legendary. It gives me chills every day when I hear it on Flames Talk.
