They probably understand that not having a proper cheerleader on the air every day hurt the public support for the project. The other guys on the station were in favour of the new building, but they hedged too much and “understood” why people would be opposed to it.
Richards is like “nah. This team is special. It means something to this city. Build the goddamn arena.”
Fingers crossed.

Andrew Walker is still in BC right? would have loved for it to be him. His podcast "The Hedge" is pretty solid.

Will it be Nick Alberga who has been cohosting for the last week or so? He is a Toronto guy I believe?
Looking forward to a full slate of Flames talk starting next week. So close to sports coming back NFL week 1 a week away and NHL camps open in a few short weeks

I find whenever I tune into the station, it is crappy. Yesterday I get old, tired Jim Rome. This morning, I get talk about Tennis and Basketball. Recently, I get golf or a ton of Blue Jays. Pretty soon I'm going to stop giving the station a try.
Mike Richards could change that. He was the better than anyone they have had on that station. He was awesome.

Unlikely.
It’s so strange that being entertaining appears to not crack the top-10 of things radio stations look for in a broadcaster.

Hmm... just a thought, but the Blue Jays are in a crazy awesome playoff race right now.
Tennis has the US Open right now, where we are watching the most famous women's tennis player of all time playing her last match(es).
Golf is typically a summertime thing.. last I checked.
I'm not so sure what your complaint is?? That it's not Flames Flames Flames Flames Flames 24/7? That's exactly what I *LIKE* about the station.
Seriously, so sick of people who just want to complain about EVERYTHING.

You saying that if i walked in to ask for a radio job and that I would except mcdonalds happy meals as compensation and didn't talk into the wrong end of the microphone that I have a chance?

So the problem you seem to have is that it's "Sports Talk Radio" instead of just "Flames Talk Radio"
This summer I've found they've talked a lot about the Flames still, especially when the big news broke, but they've done a much better job of mixing in Stampeders, Blue Jays, Cavalry, and the other sports into the rotation and it's kept it more fresh.
It's summer time, I don't need to hear the same re-hashed conversation about who the 2nd line RWer should be every day.
Once training camp starts I'm sure it will focus to being Flames the majority of the time again, but in the meantime it's good to focus on the sports actually active during the summer too.

There's plenty of time to talk about who's going to play on the third line on the Wranglers starting after Labour Day as we get closer to when rookie camp starts. I get that the purpose of this station is to feature the Flames and for that I expect full coverage of Flames when warranted, however expecting Flames talk now when we're a couple of weeks from anything being relevant is over the top.

I just can't stand the American style of sports radio at this point.
ANGEL HERNANDEZ... could be.... the WORST.... you heard me. THE. WORST. Umpire ever. Ever.
Sendmeyourthoughts! What was he thinking????
God it's a tired format. Loud, brash, dumb, and over cooked.
Hoping once the hockey season arrives the local content is more and better.

Lifetime Suspension
|
I think for afternoon radio shows they should just bring in three new super fans/bloggers from around town each week and cycle through hot topics.
Honestly the most wearing thing is hearing the same opinions from the same two guys on the same issues each day.
I like hearing new perspectives and even the odd hot take.
This is why overtime when the callers aren't hammered, pranking or dull is a good show. It's also why podcasts from fans can be just as immersive as the official radio shows.

Fan960 gets a pass during the summer months. We’ll see how things round into form when hockey season starts. I’m not sure how they’re going to replace Rhett Boomer and Pinder, which I always thoroughly enjoyed.
That said I ####ing hate the Jim Rome show and nothing anyone says will change that, summer or not

I've actually listened more because they talk about the Stamps, Jays and Cavalry. Dave Dickenson on every week, John Gibbons (Gibby even dished for the first time on the infamous Shea Hillenbrand confrontation) on this week, Adnan Virk talking about what he's actually hired to do on his hits, no American style hot take discussions, . . . . good local sports radio.
