Maybe an unpopular opinion but I'm moving Hanifin for a legit young/youngish legit top 6 RW, not considering the immediate need for a dman for the other team and just thinking about the age/style of forward I think we need to add to be a legit top notch contender, Kyrou, Nylander, Barzal, etc.
Thinking of a top 6/9 of;
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Kadri - Kyrou
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Weegar - Anderssen
Kylington - Tanev
Zadorov - Valamaki
I think we match up against the Avs very well with this type of lineup, one piece away from being jaw dropping deep. I know Brad mentioned in his Kadri presser he might not be done and looking to add another forward, i hope he is thinking one more top 6 rw and we are set.

Hanifin scored 48, mostly with 2nd unit. Hanifin is a better skater, better defensively, and plays with better leverage.
He’s only 25 and he’s this good.

Personally, I'd move Andersson before I'd move Hanifin. I think Hanifin is the better player and I also think he has the higher ceiling.

Really don’t want to touch our D. I’m okay with moving Valimaki with picks to bolster RW. I just think it’s a solid, steady group in a good age range. I also think Kylington has the potential to be a Letang-type player if he can put it all together. Do not trade.

The Blues didn’t want to move to Kyrou for Tkachuk, I doubt they move him for Hanifin.

Except you can’t get anything that would help for Valimaki unless the pick is a 1st. You don’t want to throw away high picks

Yes but I don’t know who would want to give up asset to spend that cap space on him

I don't know cap space management or what alternatives are out there compared to most of the folks here.
But if we are now talking about tweaking our team in the tune of upgrading a $1.5M player.... it seems like we are in a very very good position given its small % of the cap

His AAV ceiling is also much higher. Is he going to be 3M better than Andersson in 2 yrs?

Andersson is competitive and plays with an edge
Hanifin has more natural talent but I have some questions on his mental toughness

Hanifin is a completely average top 4 defender. Average at defending the zone, average in transition, and average at in-zone offense. A good piece to have? Certainly, but not a skillset that the Flames are missing currently imo, and I've seen him in the playoffs enough to know that he doesn't have the same kind of fight that a guy like Kadri has.

I would rather sign Kessel or trade Valimaki for a similar type forward rather than trade Hanifin for a legit top 6 guy unless it is a fleecing.
This might be the deepest flames team we have seen on the blueline, center, and goal in the cap era. Wing is the least valuable position so not interested moving a top 2/4 Dman for a second line wing unless there is a heavy futures component coming back.
Like the Garland for Hanifin suggestion. If the Canucks included their 1st then I have some interest in that deal

He's also 25 years old and, true or not, most believe that defensemen mature and/or peak later.
I hope I'm not falling into the same trap that I did with Sam Bennett where, every year, I thought that the next year was the year he was going to put it all together.
I still think Hanifin is going to be elite in this league.

Honestly, Tanev might be the one to trade next summer. Love the guy but just from an age perspective he sticks out.
Assuming Hanifin resigns next summer anyway. If not, trade Hanifin.

One advantage that Hanifin has is that he's getting more time with Sutter coaching him.
He is a bit like Bennett where there likely is not an elite player there, but there's a guy who can contribute a lot more. Hanifin was more of of high floor type who was going to settle into being a guy who has a long career as a regular player. But he is coming out of that under Sutter to be a more assertive player.
I would like to give it another year to see what else Sutter can coax out of him. I think he has taken a couple big steps getting from a #4 type up to a 2/3 guy. He didn't have the greatest playoffs, but I think that's where Sutter and the staff can work on preparing him to be better the next time around. 25 year old defenceman with over 500 games played are pretty rare.

Hanifin + 23' 1st for Kane @ 50% retained.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Mangi - Kadri - Kane
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - Ruzicka - Lucic
Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadorov - Mackey
Valimaki
Markstrom
Vladar '
Ridiculous lineup - High cost but we end up with one of the best LWs and one of the best RWs in the game.

If we trade one of our defencemen, I hope the Flames can sign Stone to another 1 year contract. He is quite the professional when it comes to being a 6-7 dman.

Chicago info below stolen from Capfreindly... do they really have room to retain 50% salary on Kane?
$7.5M, keep $5M, I guess 2.5M for one more roster spot and a few more contracts?
So how does it work, Flames give up a First and a 3rd for Kane, plus another 2nd or 3rd to bury Looch?

The problem is that both of them are getting huge raises when their contracts expire, and Rasmus has twice to term left.
