Personally, I love the player and I think he is exactly what this team needs.
To the people worrying about a face puncher. There are lots of those to be acquired/signed on the cheap to put in as your 13th Forward and used as needed.

If Lucic is moved, I think Ritchie will be brought back as the 13th forward. I thought he would've signed somewhere else (NHL or Europe) already but he might be waiting for this very reason.

Does a 7- or 8-year term for Kadri and Huberdeau *really* matter? Chances are we will be rebuilding by the tail end anyway. Load up, take a shot and if it doesn’t work, you dismantle.

You know what would be even better? Flames sign Kadri AND keep Looch.

The more I think about it I incline to agree. If we sign Kadri, our window will be 4 to 5 years, if we win a Cup or 2 in those 4 to 5 year, I don't really GAS what the remaining 3 years of their contracts looks on the grant scheme of caps.

Lucic was a great career Renaissance story. I liked having the "toughest player in the league" on our team, and I liked it when guys like Bieksa said that Calgary was the "toughest team in the league" last year.
Where did that get us? Eliminated by the Oilers in 5 games. That's where. I had thought that Lucic would be like Owen Nolan, or Recchi in Carolina. Elevate his game in the playoffs and be that grizzled vet that provides invaluable tangibles. But while his intangibles are valuable he still was part of an underwhelming bottom 6 forwards, that couldn't keep up with the speed of the playoffs. Ritchie was more effective imo.
His cap hit is just too high for a team thats trying to go all in. If you can find a taker for him, so that you can improve the team, you do it every day of the week.
But if you don't need the cap space, then sure keep him around.

If Lucic is dealt and Kadri brought in are the Flames a better team than last year? Center depth and defensive depth would be the best they have been in recent memory. There really would be no spot for Monahan unless he shifted to the wing?

I'm not sure at all about this. Who says they get credit for the cash if the actual salary is less. It's funny any way you slice it though.

I hate suffering through the tail end of such contracts and even seeing other teams suffer through it is painful. So yes, I want as few of them as possible.
5 years or less is what they should shoot for. The number of competitive suitors is dwindling, so I'd try to wait out their camp to take a discount for a more palatable term.

100%. Now, if we had a pile of long-term contracts there might be cause for concern because that complicates a sell-off and rebuild. But that's not the case.

The Lucic rumours aren't so far fetched. Almost feels like the Bruins are trying to put their 2011 team back together for one more run. Re-signing Krejci and Bergeron definitely signals that.
How incredible would it be to move Lucic and sign Kadri. Who would've thought that after Gaudreau walking, there was a chance the Flames start the 2022/23 season with a potentially better team.

I’d imagine it’s in percents, so 12.5% of his signing bonus and 12.5% of his salary.

No doubt they are a better team.
Huberdeau/Kadri is a much tougher pair to play against than Gaudreau/Tkachuk and IMO also has much more versatile offence. Gaudreau/Tkachuk relies on possession and getting the puck around the net. There's no shots from the point, very few fast breaks, etc...Huberdeau is much more versatile and Kadri was just a straight up better player than Tkachuk last year.

Interesting rumour about Kadri.
Pagnotta said Kadri to the isles was basically 'done', so will be interesting to see which is right.

Are you guys willing to lose Backlund or Coleman in order to lose Lucic those are three names that are in the discussions for letters in the other thread. Cap space after free agency is expensive to shed. I doubt Valimaki gets it done.

No and I doubt that’s a scenario being contemplated at all.
Including because the receiving would then be taking on even more cap

Coleman for sure. Great player. He's just not quite fitting a role in the system. I think he would do better in Boston. Kadri basically does what he does, but much better. The Flames could then fill bottom six roles with prospects on entry level contracts.

Heard this before on a thread here, but would it make sense to trade Lucic to Arizona, have them buy him out and bring him back at a low price?
