Kadri would be a great add for the first 3/4 years of his contract.

Does Edmonton pay 12.5 percent of his signing bonus and pay 12.5 percent of his salary?
That would make his salary 875, so if a team who needed no cap space was a stop to retain half his cap hit (3m) and only have to pay 437k in real dollars.

Ohhhhh boy that has to be one of the biggest rollercoaster, most exciting off-seasons we’ve had maybe ever. What a completely different look to the team if this all comes true.

I actually don't mind the $7.5 part, it's the 7 years I'm kinda iffy about.

Something like

Debrusk and Grzelcyk

For

Lucic and Valimaki

With Krecji back it could be 2 forwards coming from Boston

They also added Zacha

Coyle and Debrusk?
Apologies in advance for bringing up a potential Lucic trade, but this does make sense. We have 13 NHL forwards and that includes Pelletier and Ruzicka. I could see Debrusk and Foligno. We get the best player in Debrusk, but take back $7.8 while only sending $5.

Sorry 7 years is what I meant by not liking the term

I think we're all bracing for inevitable pain 5-8 years down the road for the opportunity to take a few runs at the prize in the next 4-5.

Hope for their sake that these 'now' gambles pay off with a legitimate contention window where the Flames are a top 5 team.

If it was 7 years for Kadri I can't even be mad.

So much can happen between now and then, so why worry about it now as a fan?

Just enjoy the fact that the team is a contender and would then be adding yet another piece that would/should increase our chances at winning a Cup in this current window.

If you're going to go for it, then go for it.

Was chatting with my boss at work (based in Toronto) he was playing in a golf tournament with someone who knows Kadri/Kadri’s agent and he said that it is definitely coming down to the Flames and Islanders on the Kadri front. Not something we haven’t heard before but this person talking to my boss got the feeling he was leaning towards Calgary.

If Lucic is moved I highly suspect Kadri will be signed to the Flames. Nothing on contract or anything but he told me this is what he heard yesterday and I have no reason not to believe him.

Again just passing on what I heard could be BS for sure. Don’t roast me for it but with these Lucic rumors picking up steam it seems quite a bit more plausible.
That is some delicious OJ rumor goodness.
And as much as we kinda make fun of it - is there a site around that has legitimately broken more news this this one for the Flames.
Several of our posters have legit connections and have proven to be right on more than one occasion.

So drink it up. Slurp slurp.

Liability to the team’s on ice success?

The dude literally just played a HUGE role on the best team in the league and eventual cup winner.

Really feels like you’re just basing your reputation on him based on his early days in Toronto.

Thank you for sharing, that is a delicious rumor.

From what Friedman and Seravalli have said, I don't think the Flames have ever been out on Kadri - but their level of interest in Kadri has always remained a mystery. Huberdeau, Zadorov, Loubardias, and Ryan Leslie have all also hinted at different points after the Tkachuk deal that the Flames were not done adding. I keep thinking that Kadri would be their ideal target, since it would allow them to keep their top 6 D together.

I still expect him to go to the Islanders, but it'd be funny to see fan reactions if he came here instead.

Yeah signing Huberdeau to the highest ever cap hit the organization has dolled out and then sitting on the forward group as it is makes no sense. Especially with Sutter here short term and Markstrom in his prime.

When they decided to lock up JH they made it clear this isn't a teardown but at worst a retool on the fly.

You either try to restock or go all in. No point in sitting anywhere between spinning your tires. Nazem completely transforms this team down the middle and finally Backlund can be slotted correctly for where he's at now in his career.

Takes you from a center group that has to hit above its weight to one that I very comfortably slotted with ample depth.

Which is all that would matter because they’d be in rebuild mode by then one way or another.

That's right, but he has negative trade value to a cap strapped team like Boston. So, in that case you'll need to take cap back.

Should also note that Bergeron literally mentioned in an interview that at Rask’s wedding Krejci was openly talking to him about a “last dance”. Lucic was also in attendance.

I think the Flames have definitely been interested all along and if they win the race to dump salary vs the Islanders hopefully they win the sweepstakes but I would cringe at 7 years. While we heard the Islanders offered 7.25x7 we also heard the Jackets offered Johnny 12x7 so those numbers could all be false.

My boss calling to catch up on a Friday afternoon after he took the past couple days off for golf dropping that nugget while these Lucic rumors swirl (which he has no idea of) give me some hope it could be real. We will see if it all goes down but I hope it does because that would be pretty cool at the end of the day.

Kadri would be my kids favorite player instantly. I hope it happens.

They are a 1/4 Lebanese and the Family name on that side is El KAdri.

Personally, I love the player and I think he is exactly what this team needs.

To the people worrying about a face puncher. There are lots of those to be acquired/signed on the cheap to put in as your 13th Forward and used as needed.

I'm thinking it will be 5 years, whether it's the Isles or Flames.

Franchise players are the type to get locked up until 39, not 2Cs coming off a crazy contract year performance.
