Lol you must be hard to impress.
You can absolutely love the return and still acknowledge Tkachuk was a fantastic player for Calgary and will continue to be one for Florida
|
Ya, happy he’s gone, because I didn’t want the Flames to pay him that contract. So I wanted them to sell high, and thank goodness they did.
I’ve never been a Tkachuk fan though. I recognize he’s a good hockey player. But I see him as a support piece that the Flames definitely didn’t have the luxury of spending that much money on.

If Florida plays Tkachuk with Barkov so he can put up points who is their 2nd line?
Bennett, Duclair (injured?) and ?
I think their presidents trophy had a lot to do with 2 lines scoring like crazy

Point totals don’t really matter that much in the grand scheme of things, though I’m sure he will put up a lot.
He has a positive impact on every facet of the game and an elite impact on most. The Athletic has his contract as top 5 most valuable in the league based on their metrics.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the return the Flames got and do think that Florida over paid, but reading a bunch of Flames fans downplay Tkachuk’s impact and say they’re “happy he’s gone” just comes off as embarrassing

They're significantly weakened by this trade and their offseason in general. Actually it goes back to their trade deadline really.
Hopefully they start trending down slowly.

So you prefer Huberdeau at 10.5 for ages 30-38 over Tkachuk at 9.5 for ages 24-32?

Yes, because I think Huberdeau gives us a better chance to win now. Far better then if Huberdeau was still in Florida and Tkachuk was our #1 forward.

I doubt this ages well, he is coming of his career season and Lindholm/Gaudreau/Sutter ect. were a major factor.
Flames had ridiculous fancy stats last season, like historically good. For 9.5M you need PPG to even be a decent contract let alone a bargain.

That’s all good, I just respectfully disagree with you. Those age curves don’t lie.
Given the circumstances though Flames couldn’t have dreamed of doing better in a trade.

Says the guy who thinks Tkachuk skates better than Huberdeau (one of the worst takes in CP history)
Multiple high scoring lines is 100% why they were great, you honestly think the Panthers are as good or better?

Tkachuk is already a horrible skater. I can see a scenario where Tkachuk at 32 has fallen way more then Huberdeau at 36.

Also, a power forward is a term used to describe a "player who can physically carry the puck to the front of the net."[/B] All the other things like big hits and fighting and heavy board play are nice-to-have qualities, but they predominantly belong to other roles, such as checkers, enforcers and grinders. In terms of offensive roles, there are perimeter distributors (playmakers), net drivers (power forwards) and finishers (snipers). Matthew Tkachuk is probably a 10%/70%/20% distribution of those three roles, making him a power forward by designation.
There is a lot of revisionist garbage going on in this thread. Chucky put up 35 goals and 77pts playing on the second line with Backlund and Frolik. I think he's going to be just fine playing on Florida's top line with Barkov and Reinhart.
And yeah, you guys got me. I thought he was 23, but I guess he's 24. Joke's on me there!
|
Weird definition that is way too narrow.
Marty St Louis, Power Forward
Brad Marchand, Power Forward
Paul Kariya, Power Forward
If you wanna say slow-ass forward who can still carry to the front of the net, then sure.

Not really anymore. Tkachuk just barely squeaks into the top 20 for highest cap hits next season. With the cap rising he will surely fall down that list.
And regardless likes I said earlier points aren’t everything. Tkachuk impacts every part of the game. He’s not offense only.

I think the skating concerns go out the window when a player isn’t a prospect anymore and becomes an established NHL player.
Not many people who are “horrible skaters” put up over 100 points and elite metrics across the board. Speaks to how good his positioning, hands, and hockey sense are I guess.

What forward over 9M in the NHL do you not expect at least 82 points from...they aren't everything but they are the #1 factor in players getting PAID
If you are calling the guy a stud and a bargain 82 points is the bare minimum with that other stuff....even that is just okay for the money.

Probably speaks to how much he has to rely on his line mates also. Because he sure doesn’t carry the puck in the D and neutral zone.

I liked Tkachuk just fine. I just think he’s going to settle in as a PPG player.

Well yeah and he did get paid. Tied for 18th highest cap hit in the league for finishing top 8 in scoring.
I believe he can do it again, but even if he doesn’t he still brings so much value across the board that his contract is immensely valuable.
