Big, scoring winger with grit... fills the Evander Kane match up vs the Coilers. And under contract for next 5 years.
Not sure what it would take to get him but I'd be ok with:
Valamaki
Dubé
Poirier

Kylington had more points last year. As a Dman.
Give me Kylington.

Fan trade ideas, but the first of the Flames ones has some potential
To Detroit: Oliver Kylington
To Calgary: Filip Zadina
Shayna Goldman thinks that this is a Flames win if the Flames have Weegar signed and don't want to play Kylington on the third pairing.
|
Looking at that article my only thought is who is Shayna Goldman and why does The Athletic have a person so stupid that they must be an Oiler fan writing articles like this for them?
There's a fair number of proposals there that are so bad that if they were posted on HFBoards they'd be removed for trolling.

Zadina certainly was a guy who was highly regarded but there's been next to no progression at the NHL level. His shot was supposed to be his big advantage, but it hasn't looked like NHL quality.
Giving up Kylington for him is far too much, but Juuso is probably not enough.
Really his value right now is probably similar to the Sven situation. If Detroit can find a taker for a 2nd, they probably look at it.

Zadina looks like a bust whenever I've seen him. Kylington under Sutter is much more valuable, trading him for Zadina would be a horrible deal for the Flames.

Kylington is now the Rodney Dangerfield of the Calgary Flames it would seem, which I don’t get.
It feels like some fans magnify his errors to overshadow his contributions.
Dude is a good defenceman and trading him for Zadina would be a bad, bad move.

I don’t know about Zadina but I have no doubt they would trade him for a good young forward. You don’t let someone walk free in 2 yrs if you think they are valuable. They have been underpaying him for years.

Two years gives the Flames a chance to evaluate Kylington and see if he is worth a long term commitment. He has had only one year in the NHL.
Next summer they can talk to him about an extension if he has a second good year.
Zadina is closer to Valimaki. As Jiri says he is probably worth more, but the defense position being more important helps to balance things out.
From the Sven perspective of being worth a second round pick, I have to think that Zadina is probably worth a second and Valimaki a fourth. So would Valimaki and a third get the deal done?
Is Zadina worth doing the deal?
What are the better alternatives for a young scorer that might just need a different/better situation?

I think NYR is going to have a hard time giving enough ice/opportunity to everyone including Kakko and Kravtsov.
I wonder if the plan is to showcase the latter and create a trade market for him.
Wahlstrom in the Island also comes to mind.

Tanev is a far better dman than Hanifin, though, and Hanifin showed in the playoffs that he wasn't capable of replacing him. That's like saying that you wouldn't trade Dube because of what the team would be like without Huberdeau.
It all depends on what you can get. Hanifin seems to have a pretty good reputation around the league that outmatches his generally fine play. Got to maximize the asset.

I'd probably rather go back to the convo. about trying Kylington on the wing.

Why do you keep harping this letting him walk for free angle to try and give your thoughts credibility when nobody knows what the Flames or Kylington will do in two years?

Because that is the fact. He becomes UFA in 2 years. They Flames didn’t buy any UFA years from him. It’s a indication that they are ok if he walks. They don’t value him as much as some people here do.

|
It would be a wise and calculated path.
I think Weegar covers what Hanifin has brought with a little more offensive upside.
Kylington with Zadorov on pairing 3 probably doesn't work out great. He's much better suited to playing next to Tanev.
Weegar in and Hanifin out for a forward, still think the defense is improved at the end of the day.
And I do like Hanifin (in the regular season)..

Or they think they can extend him or trade him at some point in the next two years.
Just because he's UFA in two years doesn't automatically mean they are comfortable or are just going to let him walk.

Why do people act as though including a player in a trade scenario means you hate or undervalue him? We want to get a good player back, don’t we? That means giving up a good player. Damaged goods (Monahan) and table scraps (Valimaki) aren’t going to cut it.

If this is in reference to Kylington/Zadina, my post was a critique on that proposed trade. Kylington is good and Zadina is not, which in my eyes meant they were undervaluing Kylington.

I don't really want Josh Anderson or any Hab cast off that keep getting brought up. I don't think the Flames need another 5 million dollar player who scores at a 3rd line rate. And besides, if you dangle one of Andersson, Weegar or Hanifin that's a top pairing guy in his mid 20s. There are better, younger forwards out there than the guys who were part of the Habs 32nd place team

I'm thinking since we have 2 2025 1sts we can use one for the forward help. Valimaki + 1st + expiring cap dump should be able to land you a good middle six forward from a team that isn't going to be competing next season.
Also a no to Anderson for me too. Why on earth would we take on that contract.
