I agree - yes he is a bit older and had some injury issues but he can be a force. I don't think Poirier's game will translate to the NHL, and at best he will be a pp specialist and bottom pairing guy. Valamaki will likely not ever pan out - especially with this coaching staff. And Dubé has flashes and MTL might find that useful with his age and their rebuild.
But, was just an idea. Just excited to see how this roster shapes up in the next month. Don't think Tre is done...

If our window is the next 2 / 3 years, what about going after Jordan Eberle? Local guy with 2 years left at $5.5 per season and plays RW. Offer up Monahan + Florida’s first + a prospect.

I don’t think they should be trading the Florida 1st for a 30+ player. Keep that asset. If we are going to include that for a former Oiler I would rather trade that pick + Lucic to Boston for Hall

Maybe I'm out to lunch, but that seems like a massive haul for a 32 year old Eberle. Why are we trying to get older?

Eberle is no longer worth a 1st even with a gimpy Monahan attached.

Ya that pick is just so interesting. It could land us a serious player and really help us long term.

In the next 3 years we have 4 1sts and all 3 2nds. I would part with a 2nd (not this coming draft) and use the rest. Team needs to expand the window by drafting well and adding to our already decent pool.

I think Hanifin is a bit under-rated around these parts, but if they can get Weegar inked to a longer deal it does unlock the option to flip Hanifin for a quality RFA-aged top 6 forward. I wonder if that's the path Tree has in mind.

It sounds like it right now. I like the idea right now. Brings our forward floor up.

Hanifin is a very good asset. Probably our best chip, especially after the acquisition of Weegar providing we can get him signed. It would be nice to see another legitimate top 6 forward in the house to ice two really solid lines with the ability to score.

After seeing what this blueline was like in the playoffs without Tanev, I’m leery to subtract from it. I would rather go the UFA route for a forward versus moving out pieces of what is currently an impressive D corps.

Big, scoring winger with grit... fills the Evander Kane match up vs the Coilers. And under contract for next 5 years.
Not sure what it would take to get him but I'd be ok with:
Valamaki
Dubé
Poirier
2nd in '23

Agreed.

I think if Kylington takes another step this season and looks like a legit #4 defenseman, then maybe you consider moving Hanifin next offseason. There's no need to move him now. I can't see Sutter being okay with subtracting from a important position like D, especially after the Edmonton series. I think the Flames are still lurking around Kadri and will try and sign him without having to lose any of their top six D.

I really love how our top six looks right now, with Mackey and a re-signed Stone as the probable #7/8.

Valimaki might be the odd man out, his cap hit is a little high for a reserve D - might be the only D I would consider moving right now.

Fan trade ideas, but the first of the Flames ones has some potential

To Detroit: Oliver Kylington
To Calgary: Filip Zadina

Shayna Goldman thinks that this is a Flames win if the Flames have Weegar signed and don't want to play Kylington on the third pairing.

What would the Flames need to add to make the deal Valimaki instead of Kylington?

Zadina a young and talented player that has not produced to his draft status, but he has shown that he is a full time NHL player which is something Valimaki has not been able to do.

But if they move Weegar up to the left to play with Andersson, Kylington stays with Tanev and Zadorov plays with.....?

The Flames have a great D corps as is. Why punch a hole in it?

It's not a massive haul when Monny is included. Eberle can still play hockey.

It doesn’t matter. The Flames would if they like Zadina. They need a potential scorer for Huberdeau.

Kylington is obviously not very high on their book
