Thought max we could do was 7 years?

No, IIRC because he’s still a year out from UFA 8 years is possible.

Huberdeau extending would obviously be fantastic news.
I wonder if they have to give him the 8 x $10.5 that was meant for Gaudreau to get him to sign.

Signing before doing his "look around" in the city is interesting. Maybe he remembers Calgary better than he described in that initial interview.
Brad must've charmed, indeed.
This honestly makes sense with the Flames insiders hinting and no one else. Brad has been on a roll with his signings lately too.
I feel like 8 years is 2 years too long.
37 is pretty late in the game for any player. Usually NHL stars are still useful in their roles until 35, but it's a real toss up beyond that.
Might'be been the price to keep him long term. Hoping it's closer to 9AAV than 10.

I think that Brad will get him into ball park of Gaudreau and Tchakuk. 9.75 AAV

I'd like 8M x 6 better than 6M x 8.

Totally agree, my guess is Huberdeau has no internet in trying to negotiate another deal at 35yrs old. So this is the big one... Hopefully some Treliving magic on it to be a bit of a discount factoring in the later years.
Either way I'd be stoked to have him locked up as a core piece of the roster long term.

If it is a Hubey extension this fast, I don’t think Tre paid over 10 per.

I'd imagine he'd get the same contract as Gaudreau was offered

I'm not gonna worry about a year too long or a Mil too much, we need a star player locked up long term.
Would be nice to shut up the "he won't sign there" or "going to Montreal" crowd

If it has to be 8 years, 8 x 8 front loaded would be at least a tinge more palatable.
He's a $10M player easily, but buying twilight years should warrant a discount in the cap hit.

Lowest I see it being is 9.25
But how quick it was signed, and I imagine they both wanted it done quickly, It should be 9.5-10.

Why'd he sign at a discount to Gaudreau

And 8 year deal would equal 9 years of Huberdeau
