Not worth it to who?
The vast majority of that is being covered by Prairie Sky itself. Private money.
Article from 2021:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...nton-1.5923472
Prairie Sky Gondola says it doesn't want any money from the city for the project, which the company says would cost between $132 million and $155 million.
"It would be one thing if folks were coming to the city of Edmonton saying, 'We have this really great idea — all you need to do is spend $100 million,"' Mayor Don Iveson said before voting in favour of the framework.
"What's actually happening here is someone coming and saying, 'Hey, we think we want to spend $100 million or more in your community to do something cool that we think we can make work economically."
Prairie Sky will also pay yearly fees to the City:

I hate Edmonton as much as any Calgarian, but having a link between downtown and Whyte Ave / Strathcona seems like a pretty cool idea. Link up 2 pedestrian friendly areas (use that term loosely with their downtown) that often host events. Privately funded? Seems like a win/win.

At some point in the distant future we'll have one from Westbrook up to Foothills Hospital.

Funny enough, I can tell you for fact that this idea has been discussed in design committee meetings within the city.

Not that I disagree with any part of your post, but there needs to be an outright prohibition on the use of the phrase "I hate Edmonton as much as (X), but..." anywhere on this site.

I hate Edmonton. Also, Calgary should have a gondola to get from downtown up the hill to Crescent Heights/Renfrew. A funicular would be cool too... and more fun(icular) to say.

Funiculars are absolute garbage.
I was part of the steering committee for the Prairie Sky project through 2019. I had some personal life stuff emerge that took me off of it, but I think it's a phenomenal idea. The recent article is pretty comical in it's opposition here are two low hanging fruit examples:
- Edmonton winter has nothing on winter in the mountains at high altitudes, where gondolas are commonplace technology
- The river valley is comically undeveloped; it's absolutely inaccessible to a large portion of the community, and frankly a large portion of the community doesn't want to use ####ty 2 foot wide bike trails all year. Instead a large portion of the community would indeed like a developed area they can sit and have coffee by the river, something that does not exist at all in this city today.
This is proveable through myriad city led public engagements, including the round of engagement that wound up funding the boondoggle that is the Edmonton Funicular!!

A gondola makes no sense for Edmonton. It would go back and forth, not up and down.

Would it have the standard Daryl Katz “whoops….. look I’m out of gas….” stop button?

The timing of Lowe's retirement is pretty suspicious. Waiting until the new E=NG thread is named. Because this one does it for me. No offense to the nameologists who have already weighed in.

Ah, who am I kidding. Katz will find a way to screw this up anyways.

Not. A. Chance.
There is a Snowball's chance in Hell that he is really 'stepping away.'
Just moving into the background. Its advantageous to the show that the Puppetmaster is never seen.

All true, but when things get really rough Katz will still call on Lowe for his advice.
There has to be more to this story, a rushed, quiet exit for an egomaniac. He could’ve continued to stay in the public shadows and collect a pay check and still make his demands known and enacted at the hockey ops level, and because he was so well insulated and close to the owner(s) over the years, none of the failures and internal garbage he created, stuck to him for 25 years in management.
But, without fanfare or a preplanned speech or direct press release to shine the spotlight on him one more time, a tweet from the Oilers signals his exit? Doesn’t add up.
