Another good signing, I didn’t really want to see Mangiapane signed for 6M because as good as he is, he’s just not that player yet. Flames are right on point with both these signings today and know their real value.
If they sign Huberdeau and Weegar there’s got to be another move/trade coming to fill out the top 6.

It's very good for the "compete now" crowd as well. On the whole, I like that the GM is keeping options open with shorter terms on lower AAV deals for secondary players. This is actually turning into a really good summer for the Flames—unexpectedly so.

Decent deal. I would have preferred to see the AAV closer to $5M because I’m not convinced Mangi is an annual 30+ goal guy. If he can prove me wrong then this will be great value, and if not then at least it’s only 3 yrs. Either way I’m happy to see him back and looking forward to seeing what he can do this season.

Mangiapane’s 82-game goal pace the last 3 seasons: 20, 26, 35. I would be really surprised to see him get under 20. I think 25 goals is a safe bet with 30-40 goals certainly not out of the question.

Especially with the farm in Calgary and the possibility that Monahan / Tanev could start the season late, the Flames could get away with only carrying a 20 man roster on day 1, and could probably dig about $4m of cap space out of thin air, if they want to work at it.
So it would be possible to add almost $6M

Good signing. Mangi seemingly impacts the game no matter who he is playing with. Outside shot to score 40 this year.
3 years is a little short but it gives him an opportunity to get a huge pay day.

I would thought the deal would have been longer for that average, but I guess Mangiapane is betting on himself he will worth more afterwards.. Not sure it will pay off for him in the end but if it does then it means the Flames get a great 3 years from him.

I was expecting a long term. But I can live with it. Just glad to see him and Kylington inked up

Assuming it's 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies:
That would leave just under $1.1M in cap space.
I'm going to guess one of Monahan or Lucic gets moved, Valimaki gets moved, Stone resigns for $800k.
Which could leave anywhere from $6M cap space (if Lucic and Valimaki gets moved) to $7.1M (if Monahan and Valimaki gets moved) for free agent adds

Do not really understand why not sign him for 5+ years even at the expanse of AAV being higher, unless he really did not want that. Could be gone in 3 years, not a fan of that.
Maybe he just wanted to bet on himself becoming a consistent 35+ goal guy and trying to get paid the big bucks at 29 (potentially with the flames)

For me the three years where Mangiapane is most like to be productive are these next three. I personally like the shorter term. If he plays so well that the Flames are in a tough depot as to trade or extend him in 3 trade deadlines that will be good.

Interesting. Seems like they really prioritized saving cap on this one. Another move incoming? Signaling a rebuild soon? Could go either way with this move. Guess will wait to see if Huberdeau extends.
