Lowe stepping down is actually terrible news. I believe he us the biggest reason why the Oilers have been so incredibly unsuccessful for so long and was at the core of the culture and entitlement problems.
Baseless speculation - he's the guy that'll take over Hockey Canada

Ahem...

According to Propaganda Minister Baghdad Bob Stauffer, a "Colorado Executive" told him during the Western Conference Final sweep that the Oilers were only one year behind the Avalanche in their cycle.

It's science.

Probably was a Pepsi Centre caretaker throwing a bone to the media of the sad loser club they just swept/were on the verge of sweeping.

Sorry, I need some help on this one……

- They lose their 2nd best defenseman, and best defenseman during the playoffs, to retirement

- They bring in a statistically inferior goaltender (even though he played behind a vastly superior defenseive core). Couple this he has documented anxiety issues which won’t be served well behind the Edmonton defense.

- They are losing one of Yamamoto or PullanRV

So now they are Cup favorites? I am clearly missing something major here.

Nope. Not missing anything. Remember this is Edmonton we are talking about here not a normal NHL city.

Some prediction time:

Nurse's "given not earned" salary will go to his head and his entitlement will affect his game, making it even more laughable.

Campbell will crush under the media scrutiny he's been experiencing since he started in Toronto. Skinner takes over as the starter by Christmas. Oilers buy out Campbell next summer.

McAvi and Drai request trades before the deadline.

Oilers freefall into Bedard, the next potential superstar they can do their damndest to screw up.

This would be funny if it were not so (scarily) possible!!

Kane is their leading scorer come Christmas and fans no longer care about hobbled Draisaitl so start including him in every trade proposal for Matthews.

This would have been a perfect time to use ‘A new Lowe’ as the thread title… again.

Timing seems a bit too suspicious.

Lowe of course wanted to wait until he somehow convinced enough journalists after 25 years to vote him in, and as that is the requirement for a jersey retirement with the Oilers (which he then did before officially being in the hall of fame).

His ego is the only thing that kept him in the job, even after being pushed to the shadows for a few years when they hired Chia), and the assumption would be that he would make a final tour of the league to get the pats on the back to feed that ego.

So now to quietly bow out? Wonder if he's hooked in with HC and or the Katz situation a little closer then he would like to be and pops out of the spotlight now?

He's not really gone, as the ambassador role he will fully utilize. He still had the ear of Katz, as he has had throughout his ownership and when he wants to get involved he will pull rank, but it sounds like he's hovering less.

He's the single reason the Oilers have been the toliet of the league, and made as unattractive to players in the league. That spawned them all those high draft picks, and even with two top players still have to overlay and overcomitt to get players to go there or stay. His meddling with players directly, trying so hard to be their hockey dad like Sather was to him, undermined the GM and coach year after year and a reason for such dysfunction and zero leadership.

Is there a worse player in any North American professional sports HOF? He's by far the worst player in the NHL HOF. There are hundreds of better players than him that aren't in the HOF.

It's perplexing the proposed Edmonton urban gondola has made it this far in the planning stages. We need common sense to prevail and quash this cockamamie idea.

That is a horribly written article and a terrible waste of digital space. Not one decent argument against a gondola system, which is actually a smart way to connect foot traffic year-round from Old Strathcona to Downtown, with minimal impact on the River Valley and in alignment with the Rivery Alliance Alliance redevelopment plan.

E=NG in hockey, but that is another level of NIMBY/whiny baby/Post Media drivel. It's a ####ing gondola stretching 2.5 km and barely touching the ground, not another useless goddamn freeway.

I had to look up Talus done. Was it just a typo? No. Staples from 2011.

Meet the Talus Dome: the most expensive, the most exposed and the best public sculpture in the history of Edmonton

Now the Oilers are in the unenviable position to find someone who knows "a little bit about winning".

James Neal is still counting for $1.9MM against the Oiler cap.

I was on CapFriendly trying to figure out how they get McLeod and Yamamoto signed with around $3MM (once Smith and Klefbom move to the LTIR column) and was reminded of this. It made me smile. They are no good.

I'm going to have to disagree. Not worth $155 million (which will surely go over budget).
