I think they can give bergy and krejci a low base salary but make it bonus heavy so they can fit everyone in. Kicking the can down the road (bonus overage next year) but not impossible.

I think the purpose of a deal would be bring back a Craig smith who can play in your top 9. Dumping money appears to be next to impossible right now and those with cap space know that.

People have been saying this for a week, but the only other smoke in the market around the isles has involved barzal. I'm holding out hope.

What smoke? Posters on CP? My guess it’s Bailey with an outside chance Nelson.

Barzal would be great, but I think they want to add to their Center group, not subtract. I would love to get Wahlstrom too, but I also doubt they are looking at subtracting from their youth. I would expect the changes to come in the form of guys like Pageau, Bailey, etc.

I think the Flames will be pretty quiet until they figure out Huberdeau and Weegar. If the Islanders didn't trade Barzal for Tkachuk, I don't know why they would now.

My pie in the sky hope is that there is some bad blood boiling between the Devils and Bratt and they make him available.

We’re fine. Monahan will be back to his peak form and we will have a 30-40 guy in the lineup again.
 Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
 Pelletier - Monahan - Mangiapane
 Coleman - Backlund - Dube
 Lucic - Rooney - Lewis

Islanders will move Bailey and Beauviller before Barzal IMO. Barzal is a core piece for the Islanders. You add to him, not subtract him. Could a deal be there where the Flames move a defenseman for the two Islanders? The Islanders need a blueliner in the worst way.

Anyone who refers to Monahan as a 40 goal scorer is exaggerating. He had 3 seasons where he went over 30 with two of them bein 31, and another at 34. At times he paced as a 50 goal guy...but tended to fade due to injury.
If he put up 15 goals and 35 points this year and doesn't get his head completely caved in on possession stats, it's found money. Mexican Peso value mind you. But worth more than nothing.

I'm rooting for the guy, but I'd definitely bet under 19.5 for a goal total without hesitation and for plus odds would be tempted by an under 14.5 line.

Unless the Flames can get out of his, or Lucic's contracts, the only way to add a forward is to trade a defenceman. Otherwise they'll be capped out once they sort out Kylington and Mangiapane.

I’m sure Lou would love to get rid of Palmieri as well. Hasn’t looked great in an Islanders uni.

Please save our season, husk of Sean Monahan! (Actually rooting for him, but also realistic given the years of decline.)

With the Romanov trade, the Isles’ top-4 is set. If they trade for a d-man it will likely be a minor deal.

Idk, I think the “idea” of Romanov is better than the real thing. Beyond Dobson and to a degree-Pulock, they don’t exactly have the prototypical modern-day swift, puck-rushing defense. I think they would like Valimaki and Kylington, but there’s not a lot on that roster we should be interested in that they would be willing to give up IMO.

Why would anyone give anything of value for Valimaki?
They can get him for free in October. It would be a miracle for him to make the team as is.
