Check, you keep tabs on all the megarich and hang with all of them in Florida. That's ridiculous. If this were true, there would be no rich people in any of the Canadian Cities. You watch too many movies.

He’s not wrong though… if you could live in a year round warm climate, most people would choose that. No one said all, but most. Also, extremely wealthy Canadians probably all own a beach house somewhere.

I lived in Calgary for 18 years and now I’ve lived all over the states for 25.
Calgary was awesome but there’s no way I would move back just due to weather/climate.

In general people live where they work or where their investment/businesses are.
But when that don’t matter like for the very rich people, the preferred locations are California or Florida, maybe NY city.

No they don’t. Most of them are lucky to get a single offer much less multiple multi term deals.
Most players will have tops 2-3 places to choose from. Even Johnny basically only had 3 including going back.

Ok, and I lived in the US for over a decade and moved back to Calgary, and not because I had to.

Huberdeau’s got a choice, too.
8x$10.5M: $84M ($107.55M CAD)
7x$10.5M: $73.5M ($94.1M CAD)
7x$9.75M: $68.25M ($83.78M CAD)
How many Canadians are going to choose making $23.77M less of their home currency?
How many teams are going to choose to give a 30 year old UFA winger $10.5Mx7?
Kadri just won a title and plays a more important position - he doesn’t have a job yet.
Allen Walsh has to be in his ear about this. Huberdeau has only made 39.9M for his career. $107.55M CAD is generational wealth.
Like, buy a coat, my guy.

Calgary is NOT a mediocre city though. Truly one of the best cities in the world.

Perhaps I should have elaborated. Calgary is a wonderful city, and a city that I'm trying to find a way back to ASAP with my family. Calgary is a wonderful city for my socioeconomical bracket, and social/family circle.
This being said, if I was a multimillionaire hockey player, or even a hockey player in general with an opportunity to choose my life style elsewhere, especially if I had not had kids or not put down roots yet, I would for sure be looking at the other cities to experience.

Lol ask Brett Ritchie and Michael Stone how many choices do they have? They have been ‘free’ for a few years now.

If the guy had a good agent and good people in his circle, the choice is clear. However most don't, or are unable to handle the noise... Not to beat a dead horse, but we have a very clear example in recent past...

The guy has already played his entire career in Florida.
If he likes it that much, he can live there in the summer.
Imagine he scores 70 points this year.
What’s that July 1 offer look like? 7x$8M? 6x$8M?
Seems like an awful gamble from the player’s perspective.

Oh for sure. Huberdeau wasn't my example. I was generalizing.
My point was that Calgary, when compared to other NHL markets, is not as enticing, when it comes to lifestyle and amenities, especially if one is young and hasn't put down roots yet.
