Health is probably the main concern. Had no idea he was so injured.

Evan Rodriguez finished 9th in the league in shots if I'm interpreting this correctly, FWIW. I continue to like him as a right-shot versatile smart forward. Maybe FLames not so keen on his size...

don't mind the idea but is Rodriguez THAT much better then Dube?
a lot depends on Mony's recovery and i really hope he can bounce back...maybe Rodriguez would fit in as his replacement if he can't?

I think teams are being cautious, because they know that while Subban is good on the ice, he can be a locker-room cancer. A few years ago, if you looked up "PK Subban fight", it was PK fighting his teammates in practice, or having screaming matches with them on the bench. Great guy in the community though.

Rodriguez is kinda what we hope Dube will turn out like. He had a great year, with 43 pts in 82 games, with 5 pts in 7 playoff games-and he even got a few Selke votes.

I was browsing the remaining UFAs, and I noticed the name David Farrance, who didn't get a QO from the Preds, which is a bit surprising to me. He's had a rough start to being a pro, having only 2 NHL games (no points) late in the 2020-21 season, and only 14 pts in 50 AHL games this year-but it strikes me as a little early to give up on him. He's from Boston University, and was a Hobey Baker nominee in his final 2 years, with 43 pts in 34 games in 2019-20, and 16 points in 11 games in the pandemic shortened 2020-21. He has great offensive instincts, 6'0"191lbs and is an elite skater-his game is still raw though, but maybe some time with Mitch Love could help?
That 43 point season was the best by a BU defenseman in their history of being in Hockey-East, going back to 1984, and his 1.26 ppg is the best by a D from HE in the last 25 years. He led all D that year in goals and points. I know he was very well thought of, and a highly-regarded prospect in the past-perhaps he's worth a chance? More bodies on the farm, in the least.

I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but with dark clouds around swirling around Dube's WJ team I'm hesitant to pencil him into lineups. Aside from that, my ideal scenario would be trading him with one of our D for a young forward upgrade:
e.g. Hanifin+Dube for Mercer+Graves + Tatar for cap

Forgot about this - nice find! - saw a few people in the know perplexed by this. Definitely be all for it if Flames give him a chance. Surprised someone has scooped him up yet.

With Klingberg taking his talents to Disney and to a lesser extent Heinen resigning in Pitts, this leaves:
D
P.K. Subban
Forwards
Some guy named Kadri
Paul Stastny (WPG)
Phil Kessel (AZ)
Evan Rodriguez
Sonny Milano
Johan Larsson
Victor Rask
Anyone else?
Of these, Stastny, Rodriguez, Larsson, Rask most intriguing to me if Tre goes this route.
(don't want to comment on Kadri as to not jinx it, so you didn't read this line in italics...)

I really like Sonny Milano. He has great speed and pretty good hands, and I think Sutter could do something with him. Put him with Backlund. We need more depth at C, and Stastny has shown that he can still play. If we don’t get You-know-who, he would be a good signing.
Johan Larsson is interesting-he’s a good checker, and has a nasty streak. Put up some numbers this year too.

So Kadri still doesn't have a job.
Is the leverage shifting to clubs now rather than the player? I imagine he's running out of dance partners willing to pay what he wants, plus are a competitive team.

I still think it would be hilarious and awesome if Phil Kessell came to Calgary.

I just like that he has the name of a 90s movie character.
Wasn't he in Best of the Best?

I looked it up-I think you're remembering Sonny Grasso? Lol
Sonny Milano's real name is Frank Milano. He should go by that name.
