Last season he had the worst 5v5 GA/60 among the Panthers 5 big minute defensemen, and his 5v5 GA/60 Rel is in the worst quartile of the NHL among defensemen with at least 500 minutes.

His jFresh card looks pretty good. I know those aren’t everything, but they’re pretty good indicators of quality.
It’s also hard to look at his ordinary stats and conclude he isn’t quality either.
I can’t pretend to know anything about the way the Panthers played - I can only see that there’s a lot to work with there, and I believe Darryl Sutter will know how to get the most out of him.
If the price of keeping Weegar from UFA is $7.5M, so be it.

"He sucks because a bunch of goals against go in on his watch" is kind of a flawed way to look at it IMO.. Panthers were a pretty run and gun-y team.

The stats I posted are designed to isolate his performance from overall team performance.
And I didn't say "he sucks". WTF?

That’s one stat line and not a particularly illuminating one, not do I even think it’s accurate (the only way I can see it being accurate is if it includes short handed time, which he played a lot).
His Corsi, SAT, and all that show up well. You’re going to have to do better than GA/60.

Not sure if it's been posted, but Weegar's wife/girlfriend Tara Shields tweeted "Back home to Canada! Wooo hooo! La vie est belle. I know for a fact how much @weega52 is looking forward to playing for the @NHLFlames & we- the Weegar "family"- could not be happier. Counting the days to the Oct 13 opener. Let's go, Baaabyyy! La vie continue #calgaryflames"
EDIT: Probably not his significant other, maybe an aunt or something....

Let's not get crazy about what he brings to the table. Some have suggested he's a Brodie clone. Brodie makes $5M. Maybe a bit of a premium on that, but not that much more.

Nurse has a career high of 41 points…

If this is true, can we declare we won the trade even if Huberdeau doesn't sign?

I don’t think that is his wife or girlfriend, more like a family friend and/or relative (like his Aunt).
I’m assuming the sentiment is true though.

One stat? Ok, here's another: he was third best among defenceman in Corsi. That's league wide.

Most people would take Florida over anywhere in Canada, especially if money isn’t an issue. However, there are very few jobs there for the industry Huberdeau is in especially if he wants to be highly paid. As sad as he probably is about leaving there, there is also likely to be no vacancies there for him next year, at least if he wants to maximize his earnings.
The Flames really need a PR win here and they are probably going to offer him the moon to re-sign. The optics of having to jettison another star player either through trade of free agency is something they are going to want to avoid at all costs. Huberdeau would be wise to take advantage of this from a business perspective.
I am still pretty pessimistic about him re-signing, but there are a lot of reasons why he might. Not the least of which is negotiating off of a 115 point season.

I think we're all in the same group that worries if Hubes won't sign but Weeger and he are best buds so if your buddy is begging ya to try maybe you try?
I know I would. I can pretty much say after meeting about 100 or so of you guys and gals here on Cp I'd walk through fire for most of ya because I've met some damn fine people on here.

If you look through her posting history, she has a photo of herself with Weegar and calls herself "the cousin you never knew you had".
It looks like she also attended a lot of Panthers games with his mom.

If I remember correctly, no one thought the Flames could win a series in 2004. By the time we got to Detroit, most of the Flames just wanted their autographs. You never know what can happen.

Why not both? He did just spend several years in Florida after all.
