I think the Canadian media played a roll...he was attacked, the player was suspended, and the media was all over him for some reason (Oiler fanboys)

Also interesting is that Tkachuk says he narrowed his list of teams down to 3

“I think Tre respected me for talking to him right away about it,” said Tkachuk, who indeed drew praise from the GM earlier in the day. “I could have kept this decision close to me and gone about this a different way, whether it was signing a one-year deal and putting them in a tough spot."

Respect. Thank you Matthew for not doing us dirty like 13 did.

I hold no bad feelings towards Chucky, he was honest about not wanting to stay. I just find his comment funny " I want to go where I can win, I think I can help with that". He had the best shot thus far in his career this past May...and well you really didn't help with that.

That first tweet, I'm not sure how that can be anything but a shot at Gaudreau lol.

Nothing but love for Chucky. I wish he was still here, but I’m pretty happy he’s gone to my 2nd favourite team and that we got Huby (and more) in return.

This is probably the best outcome I can recall in a situation where a player wanted to leave one team.

Dude would have been a great Captain here in another life.

Gaudreau and Guy just had an interview where Guy said that Johnny cried a lot in the last few weeks. I don't think Gaudreau did us dirty, he was just emotional where Matthew was strictly professional - the change he wanted was a sunny zip code with no state taxes where 80% of his salary is also under Florida tax code (bonus structure).

Wait, didn't Treliving say it was X number of teams -2 right off the bat in his comments today? Am I mistaken?

The article says a list was given but was quickly narrowed down to 3. So sounds like Tkachuk gave a larger list but maybe only 3 were actually viable for the Flames and Tkachuk

Default Respect?!

With one year left on his RFA, instead of even trying to negotiate a contract or extension, he said no way trade me plez, here are 6 teams (allegedly). I cannot fathom how people can consider that respectful. His previous contract, he backloaded it so that if he performed like a ~7M player, the flames would have to sign him for at least 9M or let him go. Guy was planning his exit even 3 years ago. How is that respectful.

Johnny was seemingly torn between wanting to stay and doing right by his family -- but somehow that is disrespectful, since he took a long time to make up his mind.

If the Flames get an elite prospect in the future, I would 100/100 times take the 2nd 'disrespectful' attitude over the 1st 'respectful' one who does everything to leave immediately.

Lol — one parting “shot” at Edmonton:

Quote:
“I was looking back and reflecting about my draft day, I knew nothing about Calgary. ... Leaving there I hope they can consider me the type of player the people of Alberta can be proud of. Well, in Calgary, not the people up north.
I agree that Tkachuk really could have strong-armed his destination, and in some ways he did, but at least he gave Treliving options. And I’m sure he’s glad it worked out for both him and the Flames, even though I doubt he expected so much going back from his new team to his old one. In any event, I think he respects the game too much to pull anything unprofessional in orchestrating his exit.

He does know he has chosen a team that has only left the 1st round twice in franchise history right?

Might as well throw Adam Fox in the conversation too. Scouts knew he was unlikely to play for a small market and was looking to play in NY. What a respectful guy, letting the organization know his intentions from the beginning. Very respectful, giving the Flames so much notice. Apparently around here, giving ample notice is the ultimate sign of respect and honor and dignity and legacy and reputation and blah blah blah.

So that had to be Florida, Carolina and St Louis I’d imagine.

What a haul for only having 3 teams to negotiate with.

Can’t be mad at him. He wants to win and made a decision based on that. He gave the Flames ample notice and negotiating power with other teams and netted us what could be one of the best deals in Flames history.

It was a pleasure watching him play and thankfully we only have to see him once a year.
