Honestly I think you make that trade if it’s offered and figure out contracts later. Even if you end up overpaying a little.

But I’m sure they were allowed to have some prelim discussions just like Tkachuk was able to with Florida.

I honestly think we could see Huberdeau, Weegar, Kylington, and Mangiapane contracts in the next week, Kadri as a UFA, and Lucic moved to Arizona or retired

He could have screwed the Flames over, but didn't. Big respect.
Boo Gaudreau and cheer Tkachuk

at least he was honest

He should give BT a thankyou too
####ty deal and he would be public enemy #2

I'm glad the Flames wont have to deal with the Tkachuk/Gaudreau circus much with them being out east

No, that's wrong. Kadri only wanted to play in Toronto.

As someone who learns about play styles through banger fantasy leagues, I'm thrilled Weegar was involved. Not only is he defensively sound, he put up 203 shots, 179 hits, and 156 blocks.

Dude is what you call a Multi Cat Monster! If you want a decent comparable, think Jacob Trouba.

Kadri would be fine but some more trades could be in order or some value UFAs

Cole Schwindt looks like a really solid prospect too. Similar to Zary maybe? Right-handed too, which is always welcomed.

Still not a fan of this trade after having a moment to process it, but there’s no doubt there’s a whole host of questions that need to be addressed:

1. So Tre has found his Johnny Gaudreau replacement, where will he find his Matthew Tkachuk or other RW replacement?

2. Have the Flames actually improved from last season’s team?

3. After playing in a no state tax, how will Huberdeau react to $500,000 less take home pay

4. Will both players like snowy winters after living in Florida for so many years?

5. How much time does it take the new guys to gel with their new linemates?

6. How will they react to Darryl Sutter’s abrasive coaching style?

7. After years of CP lamenting about Tkachuk/Gaudreau’s playoff performances, the same applies for Huberdeau, how does he buck the trend?

8. Will Brad Treliving trade both Huberdeau and Weager if they both remain un-signed and we sit comfortably in a playoff position

9. With the Weager addition, what happens to Kylington? Is he traded? does he re-sign long term? short term? Does he still play with Tanev? Does Weager end up on the third pair?

10. How would the fanbase ultimately react if the team ends up suffering a quick playoff exit next season and lose both Weager and Huberdeau for nothing next summer?

I keep seeing on Twitter they can’t sign extensions until January 1st, is this true?

No they can sign now. That's only for players on one-year deals.

Sure, maybe not screwed them over as much as he could’ve, but when he signed the last deal, it was with the full intention of putting the Flames in this predicament going into his/this final season before UFA, forcing the Flames to either qualify, sign long term (at his choice) or force the Flames make a trade before he plays in his QO signed season to get the best return (ie not at the deadline) and not signing a longer term back then and chew up and UFA years like John did.

I don't think this is on the table. Why'd Tre not just have gambled on a year of Tkachuk. Sign or trade.

As a card carrying member of that club, I'm glad to say that this looks like a good/potentially great trade. I'm encouraged that the Goudreau situation resulted in some quick lessons being learned. Its still ridiculous that the lessons on not squandering assets wasn't learned on Giordano (Or numerous previous assets) but that's spilled milk at this point.

I'm also a fan of a rebuild rather than a re-tool but this trade leaves the door open for both. I 100% hope that TRE will have certainty on Hub and Weeger's appetite to re-up very quickly. If they're not into it or non-committal, you instantly shop them. I assume both would garner excellent returns between now and the deadline. Guessing at a minimum, you'd be able to get 2 first rounders and good prospects or additional 2/3 round picks for the two. Quite a good start for a rebuild with the FLA 25 1st rounder and Schwind.

If they re-up long term you're going the re-tool route and bought yourself cap room for 22/23 and freed up other options coming or going. 23/24 looks a lot better cap wise than the predicament 22/23 was shaping up as.

It also gives you flexibility to trade a D for offence at some point if the opportunity is there. I think offence will be a weak point for the Flames this season so, it may need bolstering.

In Summary. A good night for Tre but, I still think he should have been fired for losing Johnny G for nothing.
