You'd pass on Edvinsson or Sanderson?
Those would be the two prospects i'd target above all else. Foundational top pairing defencemen. Especially that Sanderson deal as it includes a 1st and a 2nd (I can't believe we'd get anything near that).

Jesper Bratt
Yegor Sharangovich
Kevin Bahl
2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second round pick.
This would be a highly unpalatable return from Jersey. If thats the destination Treliving needs to get at least one of ..
Mercer
Holtz
Nemec

Not that all Americans pose a flight risk, but Sanderson as the key piece would worry me, as he has two "strikes" against him:
1. American
2. Playing in the NCAA, and can walk for nothing in 2 years.

Played hockey in Alberta as a youth though. Also, Sanderson has already turned pro - so no risk of walking for nothing in 2 years.

I didn't even consider them because neither is realistic. Yzerman has all but said they are not interested and Ottawa has made their moves plus they are a Canadian city. I also don't believe they would consider moving Sanderson.

Yeah, my thoughts as well would be neither Sanderson nor Edvinsson would be on the table.
...I'd absolute take them if they were.

Ah, okay, didn't realize he's signed already.
That would take away a lot of the risk I think. Also didn't know he moved to Calgary and became a citizen. Does he have a parent from Calgary?

Ryan Leslie just said on the St. Louis radio that there’s a 0% chance Chucky is a Flame by the arbitration date and the Flames want it done sooner than later. Also said it’ll 100% be a team that Matthew will sign long-term with. So basically, nothing we didn’t already know

He's not giving anything up. only talking about StL as a destination, won't get into speculation about other teams. Mentions the low tax states (some of which were on the list), as well as Boston/NJ. Everyone being so tight lipped about this...less info we have, the more we try to fill in the blanks.

His dad is former NHL'er Geoff Sanderson:

One thing Leslie said that I think is important is that people shouldn’t automatically judge American players and assume they’ll eventually want out. He said Hanifin loves it in Calgary and that Matthew and Johnny are just different people and not every American player is the same

not a big surprise, as you would want the team to have the opportunity to lock him in long term - though I confess, I don't know exactly what happens to the arbitration period if Chucky is dealt before then?
But you definitely want to move on before training camp so this situation doesn't become a distraction...also would be nice to get the new players adjusted with Sutter and the group.
its tricky as you don't want to take a lesser deal either due to the shorten time span to Aug 11...

Still a tough pill to swallow when three elite American born players bail on Calgary in what? The last 4 years?
That's tough.

any Blues deal without Kyrou and any Devils deal without Holtz or Mercer is a "no" for me. Absolutely need to get that one key piece.
