Why is Tkachuk going to agree to go sign long term in New Jersey? Put yourself in his shoes. Would you sign there?
Why not? You can live in Manhattan and get to Newark easily - or anywhere in NJ, it's not entirely a massive dump.

NJ gets a bad wrap, and the team is up and coming

The Tkachuks and the Hughes seem to have some ties.

NJD is a team taking that next step and are loaded with young talent.

If they pay him his $10M+, I see it as a pretty good landing spot.

They probably need to shed about $7M of cap...which is why one of Bratt or Hischier would be included in the deal IMO.
Boqvist is going to take $1.5-2M on a short-term deal. Bratt is going to take $5-6M based on comparables. Wood is going to take at least $3.5M based on his QO. That's between $10.5 and $12M dollars which puts them close to the cap. They need to shed equitable cash to what Tkachuk gets paid.

Flames might need to throw in a 4th.

Best friends with the Hughes brothers.

...but I don't see that as anything but fan chatter.
Treliving would like the defenseman ahead of the centres.

Classic Bradagast.

Would love Pastrnak but at 26 we might be just wasting his prime.

Exactly.

We've already learned over recent weeks that winning is about 3 or 4 notches down the priority hierarchy.

If I was Tkachuk I'd be interested because:
- they can fairly easily create the cap space to sign him to a big deal (pretty much just move Bratt or Tatar & LTIR Bernier)
- 2 good young C's in their top6 in Hughes & Hischier, doubling chances for chemistry with one of them, and both are signed for the bulk of what the deal would be
- Family friends with the Hughes
- Cousin of the GM
- NJ already has good young players in their lineup, more good prospects just entering the league over the next couple of years (they won't trade all of them)... I think they'll quickly be competing regularly in their division
- American market

Assuming Tkachuk plays alongside Hughes, he could produce very well there too. I am sure that's part of the reason he is considering NJ.

Yeah…. The moving lucics contract thing is no longer a problem. We can still sign Kadri… and more.

No, we'd still need to move it.

Why wouldn't he? American team, will get a good contract, and has decent pieces.

Yes. The Flames could easily make themselves a pacific playoff team again.

Very easily, actually. Take back Hall and Carlo, sign Kadri with all your space.

But what does that do for your future? You'll have none.

They need to resist immediate/cheap gratification here and focus on building a monster for 3-5 seasons from now.

I know every single long time fan in this city would thank them for it.
