But now you’ve narrowed it down to the teams that Tkachuk will sign with and can sign him which could mean a list of one or two. Whereas Eichel had many suitors, including those who would have loved to get a franchise player with several years left on his deal because they couldn’t get them in UFA. Pretty much the opposite of Tkachuk. Just not a good trade comparison even if the value ends up around the same.

I don't care where he signs, whoever has the best package really. If they think they can sign him and he takes a one year deal, sucks to be them.

How that breaks down into value this summer will be interesting. I think either of Holtz + 1st + 2nd or Sanderson + 1st + 2nd gets it done, but those 2nd rounders may be 1st rounders based on how people perceived Krebs + Tuch as being valued.
|
I don't think Ottawa puts Sanderson on the table at all. I don't think they trade him 1:1 for Matthew.

Ugh... I'm hoping we're beginning to hear way more flames in the rumourmill now. Standing pat, with the team without gaudreau and tkachuk is a franchise that is being forced to rebuild.
Please don't "Calgary Flames" this up.

There is your pile of assets that could be moved for valued futures.
I don't think Andersson will go.
|
I wouldn't mind keeping these guys as we will still need some guys to keep around.
I would throw Backlund, Coleman and Markstrom onto the list.
Before you freak we should keep Wolf in the minors but get some other guy to tandem with Vladar until Wolf is ready.
I know I'll get roasted for Backlund as well but it is what it is now..

I really hope Backlund, Coleman, Toffoli, and Markstrom are next. Especially Markstrom because his value is never going to be higher in a rebuild.
Bring in some players to play with Lindholm and Mangiapane.
Plop Monahan on the top line and see if he can bounce back a bit.. and get the Flames a pick.

I feel like it's a good time to be making some bets like last year
Flames will get 90+ points this season let's go
Flames are gonna improve with this trade not get worse

A team that wasn't good enough to beat the oilers loses their best player for nothing and now their second best player is asking to be traded.
They just weren't good enough and today they're a lot worse. They MIGHT make the playoffs if a few teams just stop playing but even then, it's 4 games. They are not beating the Avs so if the goal is to win the cup, they need to find a way to rebuild properly. If the goal is revenue from a couple of playoff games, they are going to mortgage their future even more...and the cycle of mediocrity will continue.
The writing is on the wall, they aren't good enough and need to rebuild if they want to be competitive. This coming draft looks incredible so not a bad time to bottom out. There is a lot of pairity in the league so more teams will likely be buyers. The Flames have a lot of decent players that would make good trade assets. They just aren't as good as the sum of their parts and definitely not good enough to compete.
The time is now. Burn it to the ground.

The nice part about burning it to the ground is that after a few years of zero playoff revenue, if attendance drops and there’s still no end in sight to the arena situation, Edwards will just move the team and we’ll miss out on the benefits of of a rebuild.
Fun stuff. Can’t wait.

If they don’t burn it to the ground now, it will never happen.
Just do it right, I can watch 5 yet of crap and young kids to get a decade of being a top 5 team

I just think Tkachuk is severely over rated...top 5 player is laughable. Hopefully GMs feel the same way as the media, looking forward to his 65 points for 10M
Rumored returns are all wins IMO...if they are even close to reality. Plus the cap space.
If the Flames suck then you tear it down at the deadline

Having the over under on points being 21 points below last year and having the Flames improve from this trade are at odds unless you think Gaudreau, Gudbranson and a quarter of a season of Jarnkrok are worth more than 21 points.
