Matthews is licking his lips at the first chance he'll get at free agency in 2 years. If Toronto doesn't win the Cup within these next 2 seasons, he's probably as good as gone.

I'm just glad he's given them a list to work with. Him agreeing to an extension with his new team maximizes the value we can get for him, so at least there's that silver lining: we're not trading a one year rental, we're trading a 24-year-old player coming off a 100 point season who'll be signed long-term. No reason we shouldn't be compensated accordingly.
just get it this nightmare offseason over with. Rip the band-aid off and rebuild.

Nylander comes up that year as well. Hell, Marner is looking on too, for the following year, even though he's playing in his home town.
