Maybe that's why Trelving signed them early on? He's going full Major League in building the team? Maybe Edwards wants to move the team to Florida?

Good GM's lock up their good young players when they have the hammer, for some reason Treliving stopped doing that.

Yep this is what I’ve been saying for a long time. I was actually pretty pissed when Tkachuk and Mangiapane were signed to such short extensions.
I get that Treliving wanted to maximize his 2022 window, but the risk of these guys breaking out and being really expensive was always there; pllus the added threat of them taking their 1 year QO and then saying peace.
In the end, all we as fans got out of that window was a bunch of first round exits, a disastrous 2021 season, a second round appearance and a quick exit from our bitter rivals up north. Not exactly what he had probably envisioned.

I love some of the trade proposals, hey team X give us a forward who is pretty much as good as Tkachuk and two high-end prospects and a 1st rounder.

Remember, that disastrous 2021 season prompted Tkachuk to request a trade, so that really set the tone for this offseason.
Obviously there’s a ton of hindsight involved in all of these decisions and etc. But the main point I’m trying to make here is that all the decisions “yesterday”, ultimately affects how things play out today. Brad Treliving has a ton of blood on his hands and I think its too easy to just say there’s nothing he could’ve done.

Reports were the Flames offered Gaudreau 8x8 last contract, you have no clue how hard they tried last year to sign them then

He's either too mean in these negotations and players leave because he nickels and dimes then or he's too soft and gives too short of a term. We need a verdict here guys.

No one has made a suggestion that significant.
I bet you the return is 3 pieces with one being a 1st.
And yeah, you do have to pay up for a 100 point "unicorn" player. I guarantee you there are teams who are enamored with Tkachuk and his unique toolbox.
Given how many old boys are working in the league, teams are probably salivating over the opportunity.
It's a great chance for Calgary to cash in.

That would be so sweet if Flames had AZ's lottery win and in addition to #2 pick overall! Ah, sweet dreams!

I blame Keith for all of this. I feel like if he just had thrown his damn hat when his kid got a hat trick all everything would have changed. Its the Butterfly effect.

That gif of Gaudreau and Tkachuk on the cart driving away waving goodbye perfectly summarizes this week.

Oettenger is also an American. It’s clear we don’t appeal to a lot of American born players. At this point I would go full rebuild. Get what you can for Tkachuk, probably trade Lindholm and capitalize on a pretty good return for him. Dump Monahan if there’s any takers. I’d imagine if Darryl doesn’t keep this team competitive, he steps down around December. I’d like to guess Tkachuk would have stayed had Gaudreau stayed which was speculated by many, but who knows.

He was also the guy who said Columbus had offered Gaudreau $12m/year about 2 hours before he signed for $9.75m

It really does feel like Keith is at the top of this entire trickle down.

I’m sure this is concerning for other Canadian teams too. American born players are probably looking at this and thinking why not me?
