Does Tampa dismiss a trade for Point? Assuming Tkachuk is extended, do we have to sweeten?

FLA - I can't even figure out a way to sort out a trade with Florida, no 1st in the next 2 drafts, and they're right against the cap and the pieces they'd give up I don't see us wanting

NSH - Tolvanen, Jeannot, 1st - meh, don't hate it, don't love it

DAL - Kiviranta/Gurianov, Bourque, 1st - same as NSH

But all that said, I'm not getting my hopes up and expecting we trade him for a B-prospect & 2nd round pick.
These are all terrible.
If its any of these we're hopeless.

Totally agree. Was just looking at what the deals with the rumored teams on Tkachuk's list might be, and the cap situation with some teams makes it tricky.

I'm hoping for the NJ option. Holtz/Mercer and a 1st would be nice.

I find it funny how many people say this like it is the easiest thing in the world. The Flames just had two of their stars walk after a good season, and we are supposed to believe that they will be lucky enough to land a player like that in the draft? If this franchise has an abundance of anything, it's s***luck.

This I agree with.

The Gaudreau stuff I was okay with him taking the risk of walking Gaudreau to UFA, especially since the trade market likely wasn't great for him after his 19-20 and 20-21 seasons.

With Gaudreau he signed him to a 6 year deal that took up Gaudreau's prime years up to his 29th birthday. You'd wish he had his 115 point season in 20-21 and maybe have an opportunity to move him at the deadline but in the end we got great value of out Gaudreau even if we didn't get an asset back.

But with Tkachuk it's different. He's 24 years old, not 29. He's only a year older than when Gaudreau signed his 6 year deal that covered his prime. So he's just entering the prime of his career. You signed him to a bridge deal because you wanted to contend...and really only had one good season out of the three. And because of that decision now he's able to kind of force your hand.

So now you better get this trade right because you kind of put yourself in this situation.

Hope the Flames get an unprotected 1st round pick from a team that misses the playoffs.

I don't think the STL one is bad at all.

For the rest, like I said, I'm not getting my hopes up. And a lot of these teams are handcuffed with cap issues which makes it messy.

I think any of the "rumored" (or made up by whoever on twitter) packages will end up being 1 piece less - aka just Tarasenko & a 1st, no Kyrou.

But I'm probably just embracing the negativity, who knows.

WTF happened in the dressing room at the end of the season? This group seemed so tight this year. This is certainly a low point for the organization, coming off one of its best seasons.

Well maybe just maybe the silver lining in all of this is that last season might have been an outlier for these guys. This could be a franchise altering opportunity in disguise. A year ago at this time many of us would have been in favour of moving both of them.

Nah who am i fooling?

Here's hoping Mangi - Lindholm - Kyrou light it up.

Us against the world now.

I've never wanted Monahan to make a huge comeback to a 30-30 2C in my life.

Stick it to the selfish jerks out there who bailed.

#### them!

It is unfortunate. I think if he decides to retire (which I doubt), it can be a good thing. If it not, it may be wise for the Flames to part ways with him while he is on a high from last season. Sutter will always be one of the best coaches for the Flames. No doubt about that. With the worst possible outcome to this offseason, this team may need to put the pride aside and focus in a better future going forward. I'm in the group for a proper rebuild, not just reloading with mediocre players and assets that's not gonna get the Flames anywhere long term wise.

Omg please.

Point - Lindy is a dream 1-2 you can build around.

I prefer a retool if not outright rebuild. We will see what happens with the return.

Lots of examples around the league of a team that looked like it was on the cusp of turning into a good team, and having a down year or two and picking higher up in the draft, quickly reloading, and competing again. Maybe Flames will be like this.

What I think would be the wrong move is to try and compete right now. I don't think that the remaining core is strong enough to compete.

The Flames organizationally are really strong in one key area - drafting and developing. Focus on this area for a season or two. Give that area more to work with. Flames can come out better in a couple of seasons than they would have been with a re-signed and expensive Gaudreau, and a re-signed and expensive Tkachuk.

Nah. Sutter is licking his chops to 03-04 this thing.

He will put them in their place all year long and get them all to overachieve as a result.
