Would have been more transparent to know before the draft. Imagine if both players told the Flames their intentions before draft day we'd be way better off than we are now.

Coronato should be licking his chops to get to the Flames ASAP now

And people wanted this guy as captain, good riddance.

At least we'll get something for him, hopefully.

Default Tkachuk notifies Flames he won't sign long term (The Athletic)

Disappointing for sure. But I respect this way more than how Gaudreau handled his departure. If only Gaudreau had taken this approach….

Rumour mill was that Tkachuk would sign if Gaudreau did. This all comes back to Gaudreau being a dick on his way out

Accept fate and rebuild. We don't need Tarasenko coasting out there for a year before he leaves for UFA too.

I'm not on the fire Trevling bandwagon - but the Flames do need to do an evaluation of why this happened and how to avoid it going forward.

Is it ownership, management, coaching.. whatever. Can't allow yourself to be the team that loses all their top players again.

It’s good that we didn’t name him as a captain last year. Losing two captains in back to back years would have absolutely sucked.

Though how much of an impact would it have on how much this off-season has sucked, who knows.

Boomer reported this previously. Francis and Steinberg also wrote and said things. Seravalli’s interview suggests he just didn’t know whether a re-signing or a trade would happen.

It's unfortunate he feels this way. But of the three most likely outcomes of putting him to arbitration this is not the worst. And might be the best. It was either: sign long term (with the risk it would be a crippling deal); trade him, or go through arbitration and he plays out the year on a lame duck team and goes for free.

I think we are in a good position for a great return as we can absorb significant cap dump coming back as well.

Isn't it nice of him to give the Flames ample time to find the best trading partner?
